The interior of the place was pretty nice all things considered. There were about a dozen wooden tables in front of a large counter lined with various white collar workers waiting on drinks after a long day. Off to your left was a side room stocked with a couple pool tables, a jukebox and dart boards. To the right was a small dining area where a few folks were enjoying meals before heading to their night shifts or a long drive home. It was pleasant, but made you feel a bit uneasy. There were definitely a few shady things that went on here each night...
"Stick close, let me do most of the talking." you whisper to your partner as you walk past the tables up to the bar. "Gotcha, I'll follow your lead." Hal whispers back as you grab two empty seats at the end of the counter near a man who was either passed out drunk or trying to catch up on a few hours of missed sleep. A few slow minutes passed as the bartender served a few beers to the other patrons before noticing the two of you sitting alone.
"Evening boys." she says in a sultry voice as she walks over. "What can I get y'all this evening?" She seemed nice enough but you figured it was best to be careful with your words. If she had any information on Hank she might not be willing to give it up so easily. "I'll take a Tequila Sunrise." you reply as you place a few bills on the table. "Just a cold coke for me, I'm the driver." Hal quickly added. The bartender smiled and walked off to get your orders as you and Hal discussed what your next move should be.
"Think she knows anything about Hank?" you ask in a hushed tone. Hal nodded his head as he lit up a cigarette. "No doubt, they must have passed through here. I heard from one of the guys at the gas station that she works the late shift here each night, if anyone here saw something it'd have to be her." You frown as you rub your chin. "I think your right, this place made my skin crawl ever since we walked in. Something isn't right here... that's for damn sure."
You continue talking as the bartender delivers your drinks and gives you another warm smile. "Anything else y'all need you just let me know, okay?" You are about to speak up when a drunken man near one of the pool tables gets into an argument with a biker and throws one of the pool cues at him. The biker then retaliates by kicking him to the ground as his buddies egg him on. "Oh shit, not again..." the bartender mutters under her breath as she heads over to break up the fight. "That's enough of that! Hey, I said stop it you two!"
Hal takes a sip out of his coke and gestures over to the back shelf of the bar with his eyes. You take a moment to look over and notice an unattended record book the bartender must have forgotten to put away. With everyone distracted with the fight you could easily swipe it and maybe find a record of your friend's visit... or get thrown out on your ass if the bartender catches you reading it. You take a quick sip out of your drink and decide to...
