Chapter #6

Briana goes first

(I'm reverting the story back to the original 2nd person singular here...)

You roll a 4, and are relieved when Briana rolls 6, as you could imagine another tantrum if you were to go first. “Great – I go first.” She says. Briana picks up a die and rolls again, this time showing 3 pips. She picks up the pink playing piece, and walks it forward three spaces along the bottom of the board, ending on an empty space. So now it’s your turn. You roll a 4. You move the blue playing piece forward 4 spaces onto a red space. This you know (from your cursory glance at the instructions earlier before Briana jumped on top of you) means you take a card from the little dispenser positioned on the board.

As you reach forward to press the button on the dispenser Brianna sees what you’re doing, jumps forward and whacks her hand onto the button before you reach it. However, nothing happens. “Why won’t it work?” she exclaims. “It’s broken!”

Oh great. No wonder the game was in the garage sale – the only functional part of the entire game won’t work. You reach forward to see if you can fix it, but as soon as your hand is over the button you hear a gentle clunk, and a card emerges from the slot near the bottom of the dispenser.

“Well that’s weird.” you mutter. Either it took a long time to respond to Briana hitting it, or it somehow detected the presence of your hand.

“That’s not fair.” Briana cries. She hits the button again, but again nothing happens.

“Hang on. You’ll get your turn in a minute. This card is for me, after all.” You turn the card over and read what is written on it.

Say something nice about the other player

Well, that’s pretty odd. You weren’t sure what to expect, but somehow that wasn’t it.

“What does it say?” Briana pesters. “Do you move forwards? Do you have to answer a question?”

“No, nothing quite like that. It tells me to say something.”

Now that you’ve started playing the game this seems a bit silly, although to be honest you weren’t sure what a board game called sexual pursuits could really involve. You at least thought that as it’s the deluxe version it may have some extras in the box – but all you have is the board, dice, playing pieces and card dispenser. You can only guess that anything else would have been lost ages before it ended up at a garage sale. Oh well, you’ve started now, so you might as well go along with it for a few minutes to see if it gets more interesting. At least if this is an intimate as the activities go it should keeping Briana vaguely amused for a few minutes without getting you into trouble with your mom.

OK, so you have to say something nice about Briana? You raise you eyes towards you little sister. “You’re looking very ni…” you stop and realize that Briana’s hair seems really vibrant, and even more fiery red than normal. It seems to have an inner glow and framed around her face makes her really look quite pretty. Before you even have time to think about it a genuine compliment tumbles from your mouth “Wow, your hair looks fantastic Bri.”

The silly thing is that her hair really does look really fantastic, and stopping to notice her, she does actually look really pretty.

“So did the card tell you to say my hair was nice?” Briana asks. “That’s a funny thing for it to say.”

“Well yes and no. The card told me to say something nice to you, but your hair really is looking good today.”

Your sister gives you a very suspicious look, but says nothing more. You return the card to the slot at the top of the dispenser, where it seems to be sucked inside.

“OK then, it’s your turn now.”

Briana picks up the die and rolls it across the board, scoring another 3. She moves her playing piece forwards, landing on a red square.

“Yes - Now I get to have a card!” she exclaims.

“Yes, but try and be a bit more gentle on the dispenser this time.”

She reaches forward and just as her fingers reach the button you hear the same gentle clunk, and a card is ejected from the bottom slot. She picks it up, turns it over and looks at it, with her expression getting increasingly confused. “I don’t know what this means.” She hands the card to you. “What am I supposed to do?”

What does Briana’s card say?
