Elliot reached far with his mind to get allies to start their work of freeing him from prison. It was painful calling out, the priests had done fine work in blocking him from contacting his more intelligent allies but the animals were easy, many had been feeding on his body for years and almost felt like a part of him. The people who were binding him were busy worrying about his terrifying strength and his fearsome monster allies but no one worried about the tiny creatures, the rats, and bats that could carry messages and other things to assist their dark master.
He couldn’t see the bat swarm that lurked outside but they were already seeking out the aid of his allies and even with his sensitive hearing he couldn’t hear the rats working their way to him. Even in this windowless room, they would manage to get to him. Elliot would destroy this Kingdom and take it for his own not because he wanted command of these lands but he wanted the king to see the consequences of his actions. The man would see his children lost or slain and Elliot ruling over his ancestral land before he took the man’s life.
Contemplating the conquering of these lands helped to pass the time as he waited. It was not long before he saw a small group of rats enter his cage. These were his leaders of his swarms, they had been serving him for decades and were more intelligent than many humans that he knew. Three swarms to start his work so he would be ready or even free by the time his armies arrived.
“Plague,” he petted a black rat. “You will help free me. Gather those who serve you and start chewing a hole in these walls.”
It scurried off to obey the command, such instant obedience and complete loyalty pleased him. Dawn was closing in on him and it would be an unpleasant slumber without the earth of his grave. They had removed the hidden pouch of the dirt he kept with him in case of emergency as well as most of his clothing. They had left him nearly naked in only a rag as underwear but they would pay especially the guard who had laughed at his plight.
“Isabelle,” a tiny white rat stepped forward. “Send part of your number to get my hidden stash of dirt where I hid it before I entered the castle and bring it to me and find out where the keys to my chains and the door are. See if it is possible to get them just before nightfall for me.
“Lothar,” a rat as gray as the stone of the floor lifted its head. “You are to start causing chaos in the castle, especially for the priests and clerics. Destroy their scrolls, taint their precious holy water, and hide their holy symbols. Do as much as you can in secret.”
