She saw they were maneuvering the ship to a small clearing in a high mountain valley, the air was cool and a sparkling lake was next to them as they landed. It appeared that they were about to be marooned here, her keen eyes had spotted a castle ruin at a distant end of the valley but she didn’t spot any signs of life.
“We are going to leave you fine people here unless some of you wish to join us,” the Skeleton Man leered in Temperance’s direction she responded with a very unladylike gesture. “I didn’t think so. I suggest you chalk this as a bad memory, a bump in the road because if you cause trouble for us we have ways of reaching you so be smart, chose life.”
They were ushered off of the ship onto the sandy beach next to the lake with some clothing dumped overboard for them and a couple crates of provisions were laid out for them as well. The first mate stopped at the gangplank as it was pulled aboard.
“We will inform people of your location so don’t worry about starving,” he waved to them as if they were friends departing each others company. “We have left you plenty of food for two weeks and you should be well on your way back to civilization by that time.”
Temperance had already started shifting through the clothing looking for her own or at least something that would fit her reasonably well, it looked like they had just thrown out a random assortment and most ladies didn’t have her figure. She finally found a nightdress that she could wear, at least her lingerie would no longer be visible.
The pirates were singing and cheering the loot they had scored but she made a vow to herself that she would see the man and his crew dead. She started to circle the lake to determine what she could as the others argued over who would be in charge. The petty squabble over such small things didn’t interest her. This valley was virtually untouched, from the air it had appeared that a rock slide had blocked the entrance to the land. Temperance had never heard of a castle being out here so it was likely long ago.
She had little to do with her time while they waited to be rescued so it was tempting to go check it out, but without any weapons or companions it wasn’t likely to be wise but going back to the squabbling of children seemed distasteful. She noticed something glinting in the lake, a short sword. It was certainly magical, not a mark on it. Temperance leaned in close without touching it. Scenes of battle were etched carefully into the blade. This weapon had been used against those who dwell within the Underdark it seemed, drow being slain marked part of it and the other had the hideous squid-faced mind flayers upon it being killed.
