at the genetics lab

by: Preet Malcolm Author IconMail Icon
When you arrived at the Genetics Lab, you did not see any of the doctors that were there the day before. Mom asked the Secretary, a young blonde, if any of the doctors was available for her to speak to. The Secretary checked her calendar before responding, " I see that Dr. Blake is here today but he may be in a session right now."

"I want to speak with him right now!", mom demanded.

"But ma'am, I cannot disturb him now...he is in the middle of a delicate procedure...", the Secretary protested, a little too nervously for your liking.

"You get him here right now before I make more of a scene here!", mom fumed. You were becoming increasingly uncomfortable.

The Secretary relented and paged Dr. Blake.

A few minutes later, Dr. Blake, a balding man in his late fifties, entered the lobby and greeted your mom politely.

"What can I do for you?", he asked, adjusting his glasses on his nose.

"I want you to examine my son and tell me what is happening to him since yesterday when your serum spilled on him.", mom demanded.

Dr. Blake was taken aback, and for the first time took a really good look at you.

"How old are you son?...", he asked.

"16...", you replied.

"Oh my.", Dr. Blake said as he took his stethoscope to examine you.

After a thorough examination, Dr. Blake made some notes and was mulling over them, with intermittent "uhmmms" as he read.

Mom was getting impatient, "So Dr. Blake, what can you tell me?", she asked.

"Well, Mrs. Storms, it is clear from my examination that your son is getting younger, slowly..."

"Will there be any further change?", she asked.

"It's hard to say at this point, Mrs. Storms", the doctor replied. "I will need to draw some blood for further testing and give you the results later, if that's alright with you?", he replied.

Mom turned to you, "Do you mind if the doctor took some blood from you Jazz?", she asked.

You nodded and said, "OK, let's do this and get it over with."

Dr. Blake picked up the phone from the cradle on his wooden desk and called someone, you presumed to be a nurse to take the blood sample. Minutes later, a nurse entered. she was a large woman of African descent.

"Come this way", she said, in an accent you did not recognize. Your mom followed you as the nurse took you to an adjacent room. You grimaced as she pulled out the syringe to extract your blood. You never liked this part of any doctor's visit but you averted your eyes as the nurse pricked your arm and began to extract the sample.

"All done!", she announced as she applied a band aid strip to the spot where the blood was drawn. "In a few hours you may remove the band aid.", she instructed.

You all returned to Dr. Blake's office where the nurse handed him the vial with your blood sample, which she had labeled with your name.

After the nurse left, Dr. Blake turned to mom, "We will test this sample for any signs of the serum and within a day or two we will call you with the results."

Mom agreed and gave him her contact number.

A few minutes later you and your mom left the Genetics Lab for home.

You have the following choices:

1. Later, slight changes

2. Later, major changes
