Chapter #10

Approach Hannah Wellington

    by: Unknown
You continue to work your shift, every so often drifting past Hannah, giving her a warm smile, asking if she is all right. Eventually, you can see she is starting to get bored. She's barely touched her food, and constantly stares, expectantly, at everyone who walks in. Monica, by this point, is finishing her main, content on her own. You know your choice. You check your appearance in the polished mirror on one of the restaurant's walls, allowing a thin smile to pass over Angelica's face. It's time.

"Roberto," you say, leaning in to one of the waiters out back. "I need you to take over as host, all right?" You know from her diary he's done it before.

"What? But Angelica, why?" You can see the disappointment on his face.

"Because I said so!" You flick out your words with faux-Italian passion, gesturing wildly, but the act seems to pay off. "I know why you don't want to! Your tips, eh? Well you can have mine! My friend is in trouble over there, she needs me. So you're in charge, and you get my tips for the night!"

That changes his tune. And, moments later, you're hovering above "Hannah's" table. You smile warmly, and she returns your friendliness.

"Do you mind if I join you?" You ask, going easy on the accent, letting the words flow out as Angelica's would. Hannah looks surprised, but not annoyed.

"Uh... sure?"

You pull back the chair, swinging your magnificent legs down to take a seat. Then, with half-folded eyes and perfectly judged scorn, you deliver your killer line.

"He is an idiot."

"I'm sorry?" Hannah looks surprised.

"Whoever you are waiting for. I have seen this before; the way you look to a door. You are waiting for a man, yes? And he has stood you up. So he is stupid."

"I... I don't know that. I mean, if he's stupid. This is kind of a blind date." Hannah looks a little embarrassed as she says it, although there's a playful smile dancing around her lips that suggest she knows something is about to happen.

"Ah! Then double stupido, eh? Because now he'll never know what he missed out on!" You grin Angelica's smile, letting her large, bright smile light up. You lean over and tap Hannah's wrist. "So good riddance to stupid. But that doesn't mean you don't 'ave a good night, does it? Simone, bring us a bottle of 'ouse red! My friend here and I are going to 'ave a good time!"

*****

You spend an hour, over pasta and wine, laughing, giggling, gossiping. Hannah - or Jessica - is remarkably easy to talk to, and seems to be buying in to everything 'Angelica' says. Soon she's relaxed completely, and you're bumping into each other, touching each other's hands across the table, even caressing each other in an overtly friendly way. It doesn't take much beyond that to point out to her that other guests are noticing the owner is taking a lot of time with one customer (even if you're officially off duty), and that you've got an even better bottle of red upstairs. Soon you're heading up to Angelica's apartment, laughing, slipping over as the alcohol takes hold, walking with one arm planted on 'Hannah's' back. And then, alone, as the wine flows, the cigarette smoke drifts and conversation peters out, Hannah comes on to you.

She breathes heavily, her lips drifting closer to yours, your proud Italian face not resisting as she plants first a kiss on your lips, then her tongue slips down your throat. At that you're so surprised you recoil back, unsure how to react... or how Angelica would react, either.

"Sorry. I've...I've never done anything like this before," Hannah says, catching her breath. "But... if you..."

She doesn't need to complete the sentence. The only question is: do want this? It's easy to think of this as you and your girlfriend, having some fun. But there's something dark, evil, about having effectively stolen two peoples' lives in the first place. Some fun and games, a little fooling around... you can understand that. But you feel like you should draw a limit somewhere, shouldn't you? Angelica's body might be yours for now, but doesn't that come with a responsibility to its original owner? You feel torn, caught up in both the intoxication of the moment and the strange ethics of the scenario you find yourself in.

You have the following choices:

1. Go with it

2. Turn her down
