Wendy moved the trio towards the table with her friend. Even though her hands were full, Wendy attempted to wave for her friends attention. The other girl looked up from her meal and awkwardly waved back. She was sitting in a four-person booth, but had bags covering most of the surface of the table.
"Hi, Sarah," called Wendy, "mind if we sit with you?"
"Sure," Sarah replied, gesturing to the seat next to her, "but who else is with you? And what's in your hand?"
"To answer both you questions: my little brother and sister, Jaime and Mary. Jaime, Mary, this is Sarah. She works with me at the bookstore."Wendy lowered her hand to the table so everyone could meet. While Mary hopped around excitedly, Jaime stared up at the giant girl who was now observing them. Sarah had to be at least 17 years old, with wide-rimmed glasses and a fair complexion. Her dark brown hair was twisted into two tails that draped down her skinny shoulders. In her hands was a book which had a title Jaime didn't understand, and on the table was a carton of fries she had apparently been nibbling at while reading. She certainly fit the stereotype of a bookworm, but Jaime found himself staring longer than he should have.
"You weren't joking when you said little," Sarah noted, "how did they end up like this?"
"I have no idea, but aren't they just adorable?" Wendy responded. Sarah let out a sigh of warm air that nearly knocked the twins over. Clearly Wendy wasn't taking the situation very seriously.
Mary had taken to eating the fries that Wendy had since placed on the table next to Sarah's, showing her lack of interest in this new person and instead her desire to eat. Jaime was tempted to join her, but Sarah turned her attention back to him.
"Do you have any idea what happened?" she asked as she extended a finger for him to step onto. He climbed aboard and was lifted closer to her face as the warm breathe from her nostrils rushed over Jaime.
"I don't know," he stated. "Both of us had really bad stomach aches, then fainted and woke up with Wendy's giant face looking at us."
"Stomach aches?" repeated Sarah, "that's weird. I think I have a book about something like that." She went searching through her bags, which all held books, until she found the one she was looking for.
"'Gulliver's New Travels.' It's an updated version of the classic tale we've been assigned as summer reading, and one of the things that happens in this story is the hero, Gulliver, gets really bad stomach aches right before changing size." It seemed a bit far-fetched to Jaime, but he figured it was worth a shot. Sarah opened the book and began to read to herself. Wendy, knowing how focused her friend could be, motioned to Jaime to excuse herself and went to find something to eat.
Why would we be living like a storybook character? Jaime thought, as he wandered back to the fries his sister was munching through. He shook his head in disbelief at the thought of such bizarre circumstances behind his situation. It's just so... weird. A shadow moved over him as Sarah's hand reached absently for a fry. He watched as it descended into the carton Wendy had bought for the twins and pulled out the fry Mary was attempting to eat.
"Mary!" Jaime yelled, hoping his sister would figure out what to do. He ran back to Sarah in an attempt to stop her, as he watched Mary...
