Startled by the display, and feeling self-conscious, you're problems increase when you see your least favourite person in the world. Nick emerges from a nearby shop, still holding the box, you dart behind a tree, hoping to minimise your profile, and chance of catching his eye.
You despise him, and the adoration he receives. As one of the players on the football team, people turn a blind eye to his actions. Forgiving and ignoring it in equal measure. Even suggesting you don't like him, has been dismissed as jealousy, with a disappointed shake of the head. No further questions or anything, just the lingering contempt.
But, you've seen that smile shift to smirking amusement, as he flexes for attention. His cruelty being indulged as playful, your complaints as being a bad sport.
As you lurk in the dappled shade of the shifting leaves. The wind gently making them rustle, you wonder if this is the ideal test. If you can conduct it from the privacy of your hiding place, you can see if it's real, or if you're having a psychotic break, and this is all in your imagination.
Screwing up your eyes, you try to imagine the perfect way to end your torment, and get Nick out of your life. Summoning your will, you decide to craft the perfect wish.
