Chapter #8

Adventuers walk into a Bar

    by: Clide Author IconMail Icon
Cyrus looked up at Augustus and replied, "I think Sarah's got the right idea - taverns are gathering hot spots for suspicious characters. I can't tell you how many baddies she and I bagged together back before she was Vice Guildmaster - just about all of them, we found in a tavern." Augustus exclaimed, "Very well, then! We shall make our way there, posthaste!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------

The three adventurers took their stroll through town, keeping an eye out along the way for any suspicious sorts. After walking down the streets of the town for about fifteen minutes, the group had finally found the tavern. Just beside the doorway leading into the tavern was a male half-Orc - he served as the bouncer, keeping any unwanted customers out, and throwing out any who would start a fight. Upon seeing Sarah and Augustus, the half-Orc faced his gaze towards Sarah and said, "Good afternoon, Windbag. I see you brought a drinking buddy - he one of your guildmates?" Sarah replied, "Good to see you, too, Dradd - this guy isn't part of the guild, he's--" Augustus interrupted, stepping in front of Sarah and saying, "The name is Augustus Leaffall. I'm looking for somebody, and I have reason to believe he's residing here in this here tavern." Dradd narrowed his eyes, before he looked past Augustus and back at Sarah behind him. "This guy gonna be any trouble?" Dradd asked bluntly. Sarah shook her head and replied, "Not at all, Dradd - if he starts anything, I'll personally knock him out into next week." Dradd gave Sarah a knowing smile and chuckled some. "Well, I'll hold you to that," he said. "Just try not to knock out anybody else while you're doing it, you hear?" Sarah winked and gave Dradd a salute, as her and Augustus made their way through the door.

"I meant it too, August," Sarah told Augustus. "I'm a regular here, I don't need you getting me kicked out of here - I'll give you a face full of gas if I need to." Augustus raised an eyebrow in mild concern, and replied, "Duly noted, Sarah."

I should have guessed, Cyrus thought to himself from the comfort of Augustus' pocket. Sarah never passed up an opportunity to get a drink before, I should have figured it'd be the same case here. I guess she's treating this like she would any other job. Sarah told Augustus, "You go get a room, and leave Cyrus in there until the effects of the potion wear off - once you're done, come join me at my table, and we'll discuss our next plan of action." Augustus nodded, and the two split up, with Augustus heading to the receptionist located next to the stairs that led to the second floor. "Room for two, please, for me and my friend the Wind Elf, getting herself a drink over there," Augustus said to the receptionist. The receptionist looked up and replied, "Lucky you, it's the last room available," as she gave him the room key. "Take this key and head up to the stairs - your room is at the very end of the hall. The bill will be on her tab." Augustus nodded and made his way up the stairs without a second thought - once he had made it to the end of the hall where the room was located, he used the key and swiftly opened the door. He made his way to the left-side bed and placed his jacket down there, letting Cyrus crawl out of the pocket. Alright now," Augustus said, "Sarah has told me to leave you here for the time being, until the effects of the potion start to wear off - sad to say, you're not much help to us like this." Cyrus rolled his eyes and replied, "Yeah, I kinda got that already - what's your plan?"

"I am to meet Sarah back downstairs, Augustus told Cyrus. "She plans to discuss the details with me. Methinks we'll search the town shortly after." Cyrus nodded and said, "OK, sounds good - keep close behind her, she knows this town like the back of her hand." Augustus nodded and made his way out the door, locking it behind him.
