The next day, Katie got to the pool before it opened to do her fitness test with Madison. Katie quickly changed into her suit, a one piece that Deb had given her last year that seemed tighter than when the school year ended the previous year. She loathed what greeted her when she got to the pool area.
"Hi Katie!" Madison cheerfully said.
Katie looked over her new coworker. Madison was wearing a red lifeguard style two piece swimsuit-- not trendy, but it was still a two piece and it showed off just how much difference there was between the fat senior and the hot freshman. Madison's toned and tanned abs nearly had a six pack, her athletic arms lacked and fat, her boobs were perky without any rolls around the back. Katie, without trying to give the elevator eyes to Madison, noticed how firm her legs looked, and she assumed Madison's ass probably matched the rest. She even noticed how Madison, not wearing any make-up and having her hair pulled back still had a nearly perfect face. Her natural beauty shined through with her sharp features and tanned skin. Katie could not believe her bad luck of having to take this test with a perfect 10.
"Let's get this over with, where's Deb?" Katie asked.
"She had to run and get her tablet from the admin office, she said she should be back in a second." Madison responded.
Katie, trying to pass some downtime, started small talk, "So you're from Miami, do you swim much?" she asked.
"Yeah! I love being by the water or at the beach. Back home we would go to the beach all the time, and I was on the swim team in high school!"
Great... thought Katie, sarcastically.
When Deb got back to the pool, Katie and Madison jumped in and did their required drills. For Madison it was easy, with laps coming as easily as a slow paced walk in the park. For Katie, it was a constant struggle. She wondered how she had let herself get so out of shape. Each stroke was a huge effort for her, made worse with the knowledge that Madison's sleek body was burst off the line during drills and flying through the water. Whenever she would finish, she felt humiliated to come up, exhausted and needing to grab the wall, only to see Madison already finished and casually chatting with Deb--the same drills hardly breaking a sweat on her.
After they were done with the physical and tests, Deb looked at her notes, "Madison, you're more than qualified to do this. You'll just need to pass a written test and then you'll be good to go!" She then paused, changed her tone and continued, "Katie, you really need to get in better shape. I'm going to pass you, but only because we're short on lifeguards, and I want you to start meeting with one of the personal trainers at the rec center upstairs."
Madison felt a bit awkward standing there while Katie was being reprimanded like this, but she tried not to pay attention. Katie stood there and took it. As she walked away, she breathed under her breath, "I hate Deb and Madison..."
