I'm trying to study in here for a test tomorrow," Madison shouted into the common room of her dorm to her roommate, Cassie. She was trying to highlight key pieces of information in her textbook but the sounds of eating in the next room were pulling her focus.
"Sorry! Hey, I bought a couple pints of ice cream today, you want one? I have cookie dough," Cassie replied.Madison looked down at her textbook, contemplating her options, and as if on cue her stomach growled and it was all decided.
"Give me a second, I'm coming!" Madison went into the other room to sit with Cassie on their couch and enjoy their ice cream, something that had become a common occurrence between the two of them and it showed.
Madison first met Cassie as a petite and thin girl, but the same could not be said about the version of her roommate sitting on the couch with her now. Cassie seemed to be addicted to food, something she'd openly admitted since starting college, and this newfound addiction had manifested itself as a 40 pound gain since they started school in August, going from 130 to 170 just before the end of October. It covered her entire body in a layer of pudge but the real star of the show was her belly. Most of her weight had settled there, and as she was sitting on the couch it took up a fair portion of her lap, resting on her thighs that had grown as well. Cassie was always eating and always had a lot of food around, meaning that Madison was picking up some of Cassie's excessive habits.
Madison didn't notice that she had put on any weight from picking up Cassie's eating habits, tricking herself into thinking she was fine since she never ate as much as her very chubby roommate (although their portions were growing closer in size every day). Madison's lower half continued to be the part of her that grew, giving her an exaggerated pear shape. Her thighs now touched almost all the way down to her knees, chafing constantly when she walked. Her butt had continued to grow, giving her the start of a shelf butt. While she still hadn't put on as much weight as Cassie, the 15 pounds she went home with at the beginning of October had turned into 26 by the end of the month, but she still hadn't noticed the effect since she had taken to just wearing sweatpants or leggings. If she had tried to wear any of her pants from the beginning of the semester she would discover that they wouldn't even fit up her thighs.
"Any plans for Thanksgiving later this month?" Madison asked Cassie.
"I'm going home. You?" Cassie garbled with a full mouth of ice cream. Madison swore she could see a slight double chin developing on Cassie, which with the way she packed food away made it only a matter of time.
"I'm staying here and my sister's coming to visit," Madison told her.
"That'll be fun! If you need any restaurant recommendation let me know, I obviously have a bunch," Cassie offered, rubbing her bloated stomach for emphasis.
"I might just take you up on that," Madison replied as she got up to go back to studying. She threw her pint container away and went back into her room. As she entered her room she caught a quick glance at herself in her full length mirror. It must be warped, she thought as she sat down in her chair. She had to adjust herself more than she ever remembered in her chair due to her growing lower half that was getting close to spilling over the edge of the chair (26 pounds all in one half of the body can do that to a person), but Madison was still in denial that she had changed at all.
