How about this: Ash gradually swaps personalities with one of the Pokémon. This means that Ash slowly over time starts to act more and more like the Pokémon in question, while the Pokémon starts to act more and more like Ash; eventually culminating with Ash thinking he actually IS the Pokémon in question, while the Pokémon thinks it really IS the human, Ash!


Or maybe this: He gets a hive mind with at least one Pokémon's body and his own?
