After nearly a minute of thrashing the back door Amanda decided to give up. She knew that the walls had been sound-proofed once noisy neighbours had moved in next door, so there was no way her parents were going to hear them.
"What now?" Kesley demanded, shivering with the cold.
A flash of lightning illuminated the back yard. Out of habit, Amanda counted the beats until she heard the thunder rumble.
"Six beats." she mumbled.
The lightning had shown her a possible chance of salvation, but she needed to be sure it was safe. Another flash of lightning struck, and this time the rumble took eight beats.
"Good. The thunderstorm is moving away."
"That's great." Kesley replied harshly. "Best news I've heard all night. Now, about our current situation...?"
"My brother's tree house. If the storm is moving away, then we should be safe in there."
"Is your brother...?"
"No, he's in his room. He only uses the tree house when he has friends over."
The two girls retreated towards the tree house. By now Amanda's pyjamas were soaked through as well and although they did not reveal quite as much as Kelsey's underwear had, the material still clung to her like a second skin. The outline of her camel toe and the curves of her behind would be apparent to anyone who saw her.
A rope ladder hung down, granting access to the sanctuary. Without thinking about the view she would be giving, Kelsey began to climb up it. Amanda followed, and after a quick glance upwards decided to keep her eyes firmly on the ladder.
"Oh god!" she heard from above.
She looked up - just in time to be hit in the face by the towel. With a free hand she removed it, and wrapped it around her neck.
"Where did it go?" she heard Kelsey ask in a panic. "Quick, let me down!"
"I've got it, don't worry." Amanda called up.
"Really? Quick, pass it to me."
"You can't put it on while climbing a ladder, Kel! Just get into the tree house and you can get sorted in there."
With great reluctance, Kesley continued the rest of the climb naked.
