Somewhere in a city in a country of earth

My story of the downfall of men begins in 1908. The people where very busy and technology was on the move. Factories who spew black smoke into the air raised like mushrooms on a wet summerday in the woods and men became hasty.

It is friday evening and I was on my way home. The tram was full, like every day at this time. I a man I knew from a pub and we talked for a while before he left the filled cabine. I had to wait another ten minutes until I arrived at my destination. I lived in the outskirts of the city and here and there I stopped to greet someone or simply nodded to neighbors. Two kids playing ball on the street and I kicked it back as it came in my direction. I was not a good soccer player and so I missed my target by far. they chuckled but I didn't mind. I knew of this mine weaknes.

It smelled good as I was in front of my door. I opened it to be greeted by my two kids Charly and Lara, five and 3 years old. My wife was setting the table already. "Hi honey", she greeted me and gave me a passionate kiss while my kids still watched. It was an uneventful evening with some talking after we brought the kids to bed. Nothing special at all. Nothing that warned from the immediate danger that was right above us. The rats and hares acted strange and a small line was giving record to it in the newspaper but people put it away as a vermin problem rather than the beginning of the apocalypse.
