“Remind me where you work again?” Rachel asked Mackenzie with a sly grin as they drove along.
Before she had a chance to think about it Mackenzie replied, “You know where I work, Fred’s Drive-In Burger Palace. You’ve eaten there many times.” It was only after the words slipped from her mouth that Mackenzie realized what Rachel was up to. “No, please. You can’t be serious! I WORK there. People know me!! You’re just kidding around, right? Tell me you’re just kidding!”
Rachel eyed the terrified naked girl in the seat next to her. Such power she felt over this young woman. In the back of her mind Rachel had somehow distorted the unfortunate events that occurred between her former best friend Marianne, blaming Mackenzie for the rift that developed between them. After all, things were fine until Mackenzie started hanging around the two of them. Over time, Rachel had convinced herself that Mackenzie had been trying to drive a wedge between them. Having her neighbor show up naked on her doorstep was pure providence. After eyeing her captive for a few moments Rachel replied, “What . . .? I’m just hungry, that’s all. What’s the big deal?”
“Please Rachel . . . You’ve had your fun now let’s go home and get me something to wear, okay?”
Ignoring her pleas Rachel continued, “I’m so glad you suggested Fred’s. I’m really craving his Cheeseburger platter. Nobody makes a cheeseburger like Fred.” Just then she turned the vehicle into the restaurant and pulled into a parking place along the long main sidewalk that led to the restaurant, choosing a place a few spots away from the nearest cars and shut off the engine.
Fred’s Drive-in was a popular hangout for most of the high school kids because you could eat in your car. It was trendy and nostalgic and the food was not only good but cheap. Each parking place had a menu board with a built in speaker located next to the driver’s window. The driver could order right from the car and a cheerful employee wearing roller skates would bring your order out to your car on a tray and hang it on the side of the car’s open window. Mackenzie loved working there not only because it was popular but the tips were generally good.
Mackenzie quickly covered herself with her hands and slid as low as possible into her seat. “SIT UP and don’t cover yourself. You do realize how foolish you look and that you are only drawing attention to yourself by doing that. No one can tell you’re naked if you just act natural and not like some criminal doing something they shouldn’t be doing. All people can see is your head and shoulders. The car covers the rest. Besides, I like how you look naked and you don’t want to get me angry. Now let’s just enjoy a good meal and then we’ll be on our way. “
Looking around Mackenzie almost died! She was naked at the very place she worked!! What if people saw her like this? She could never go back to work again. She would never live it down! Perhaps Rachel was just messing with her. After all she hadn’t yet pressed the call button for service. Still, just sitting there naked was so nerve wracking she could hardly stand it. She saw people eating in their cars across the way and she knew that at any minute someone she knew from school could drive up and park next to them and spot her. She looked over at Rachel who seemed to be content with just looking at her friend squirm in her seat. She thought that surely her friend was just trying to psych her out and it was working too! Mackenzie just knew that at any minute now Rachel was going to pull out and leave. Mackenzie had to hand it to her though. Rachel sure knew how to take advantage of the situation inflicting the greatest amount of stress. As Mackenzie sat there nervously looking around . . .
