Rebecca tried to prep herself for a quick getaway, but doubled over and stopped dead in her tracks. She let out an inward sigh; the brunette couldn't muster the courage to do such a thing. There was also a slight tug in her head that restrained her from conducting such a cowardly move. After all, she was the type of woman to face her problems head on instead of running away. The juvenile delinquent might have tossed away her interest of school and exams, but that didn't mean that she was going to give up on her self-respect, or whatever remained of it. No, she had to remain where she was and deal with the aftermath. Rebecca pressed her ear against the door.
"Hmm...do we have to investigate this? I mean, we have other stuff to do than play Scooby-doo with this mystery bag," the book smart's voice resonated lavishly. "We're supposed to be seniors. We can't afford a stain to our reputation."
"Yeah, but you know the rules, Vanessa. We have to report any abnormalities to a superior and find out as much as possible on the matter," the haughty girl reasoned. Clearly, she was not backing down on the affair. "What if this ordeal escalates into a bedlam if we leave it untouched? We would be the ones responsible for it all since we didn't lift a finger to aid. Our punishment will be more severe than we can ever imagine. Detention is bad enough, but they'd go even farther...like...like..." Rebecca could hear the condescending student's voice falter for the first time. What could be so frightening to leave the broad at a loss for words? "You wouldn't think they'd send us to the Chamber?! Oh god, they totally will! We'll be tortured there for the rest of our lives! I can't bear the thought of those hands touching me on my weak spots! Oh god, oh god, oh god! And the feathers too! It's like a gateway to a harrowing nightmare!"
The two companions shrieked and nearly fainted at the notion. They both knew what awaited there at the pit of Hell. Vanessa gulped and grabbed their attention. "This is only hearsay, but I've heard the only girl to ever walk in that Chamber was a senior troublemaker. She was only put on probation after a month and her attitude did a complete 180. She never stirred up trouble again, but the look on her face was that of horror and constant paranoia. Oh lord, if they managed to crack a tough girl like her, they'd have no trouble going through us."
A feeling of uneasiness was orally transmitted to the hidden brown-haired virgin. This didn't sound like the perfect school she envisioned. This sounded like a campfire horror story that most likely held some truth. It only served as a reminder to eminently get the hell out of this war zone. Reflexively, Rebecca's ragged breath systematically doubled its pace.
"What's that noise? Is someone there?"
'Oh shit. Smart move, Rebecca. I'm so stupid. I'm retarded. An absolute moron.' Said brunette clasped her hand against her untamed mouth while slowly backing up from the door of her stall. That was probably the last straw to her demise.
"Maybe that was just your imagination, Vanessa," the third wheel shrugged.
"Or maybe the person who dropped this bag is still lurking around somewhere..." the malignant lass added her two cents.
"I'm positive I heard a noise. I think it stemmed from one of those stalls," the Velma of the group pointed out. "After all, you know stalls are a great hiding place in any situation. But of course, it's the oldest one in the book, so you mustn't rely on it too much. Especially considering how the rich principal designed them - there is no escape once you're caught in there."
Rebecca's heart began throbbing faster than a sprinter at the Olympics. She was wondering what they were referring to with 'how the principal designed them'. In any event, she had to stay still and not cause further hubbub. Her throat was red raw, her eyelids were shut tight, her legs were quivering like Jello and her stomach was churning with unbearable trepidation like a martyr that was awaiting their fate. The room grew quiet - too quiet - to the point that Rebecca pondered if the trio was still nearby.
Then, while her guard was dropped, it happened.
