"Well, this looks like a job for our chivalrous knight," said tabitha, walking over and slapping John on the back, though she almost regretted that with the hard armor he wore.
"What?" said John, flabbergasted, "Why me?"
"Come one, she is obviously interested in you." Said Tabitha, winking at John who seemed oblivious to the fact the servant was stumbling over herself.
"Poppycock," said John, folding his arms and giving a look of defiance to the idea. "Besides... she's not my type."
"Your not being asked to court her or anything," said Cassie, her tone more compromising, "All you need to do is keep her attention."
"Think of it as a fan you're entertaining, she is a servant looking up to a gallant knight in shining armor," said Marty, appealing to John's ego, "Surely you can stand being showered with praise for a few hours, or is the mighty John intimidated by the admiration of women?"
John looked offended at the challenge to his pride, "Ok, fine, I will keep her occupied," he said, though he was clearly not liking the methods being employed against him.
"Great, let's just get your date in on the action." said Tabitha, Moving for the door,"
"She's not a... Oh never mind!" said John, flustered by the comment, folding his arms as Marty and Cassie went to follow Tabitha to the hall, closing the door behind them.
As they left John walked over to the table of treats, grumbling to himself. "Intimidated by women, HAH!" he boasted to himself, smoke snorting from his nostrils as he steamed over the ribbing. "Women find me very attractive, I'll have you know!" He eyed the table full of snacks, grabbing a cupcake as he continued his rant to no one in particular. "Of course it will be child's play to..." he said as he absently took a bite, and cut off as he tasted the sweet treat, "Hey, not bad," he said, momentarily distracted enough to where his bad mood dissipated.
---
As Tabitha, Cassie and Marty left the room, the servant immediately turned from her sweeping to face them. "Oh, my Lady, is anything wrong? Were the snacks not to your liking?" she said a disappointed tone in her voice.
"Oh no, the snacks were fine," said Tabitha, thinking there was no way she was going to fall into that trap after reading the dairy. "I just, couldn't help but notice someone has certain feelings for a certain someone..." she said somewhat teasingly, winking at the servant.
"I'm sure I don't know what you mean my Lady..." said the servant, though she was blushing a little as she said it.
"Really?" said Tabitha, "Not someone green, scaly, ruggedly handsome dragon clad in armor?" She could see the servant still blushing, trying to cover her face which was still practically glowing red. Tabitha decided to try a different angle, "It is a little obvious, and I think it's SOOO romantic!" she said, shifting her tone and taking a more adoring tone.
The dragoness expression changed, as she looked more interested as Tabitha spoke. "A handsome and valiant knight, returning after a perilous quest, weary and tired, while a humble young maiden watches, ready to tend to his wounds, but her heart has been smitten by Cupids arrow, and wants nothing more then to be by his side." she says, pouring in the saccharine sweetness of a romance novel as the servants eyes widened with the allure.
"But she can't, he is above her station, she can't admit to him the love in her heart, its a forbidden love, so all she can do is tend to him, completely unaware that he has taken notice of her kind gestures. Her purity and virtue has caught his eye, but no, he has sworn his life and body to the king, he cannot put his own feelings before his duty. He cannot foreswear his oaths, so must endure the beating of his heart, and must simply be content with remaining in the presence of the one for which his heart yearns."
The servant was enraptured in Tabitha's words, eyes wide and brimming with tears. "Is... is that what Sir Knight REALLY feels?" she asks, a hopeful tone in her voice. Tabitha hushed her tone as if she was making sure John could not hear, "I suspect it," she said reassuringly, "You MUST take advantage of the situation while you can."
"Oh, but My Lady, my duty to you..." the servant started.
"And it would give me great pleasure to see my loyal and faithful friend follow her heart. Nothing would make me happier then seeing this fairy tale romance unfold. In fact for the time being, consider your priority to be to tend to Sir Knight. I was going to show her Holiness and Master Sage the library to discuss... matters of state, so you should have plenty of time to connect with Sir Knight before we return, which I expect you to fill me in on all the details."
The servant held her face in embarrassment, giving off a soft squeal of suppressed excitement before working to regain her composure, clearing her through before giving a curtsy, "A-as you wish My Lady," she said as respectfully as she could, though the nervousness in her tone betrayed the excitement in her eye. Taking a deep breath, she composed herself before moving to the door, waiting a moment to steel herself, before walking in and closing the door behind her.
"I really hope John doesn't completely break her heart after all that." says Cassie, a little disappointed at the nature of this ruse.
"I'm sure it'll be fine," said Tabitha, "If she was that infatuated before she'd have gotten her heart broken anyway when we make a getaway. Right now we should focus on the task at hand and find that treasure." She pulled out the magical map, "Okay map, let's see where this treasure is supposed to be."
Unrolling it, the map appeared to be blank, until suddenly it began to fill in, as if invisible quills were writing upon it. The outline of the castle started to take shape, as if from a birds eye view, the ink seeming to fade as additional parts of it filled in, creating a gradient upon which different floors were displayed.
"Well, isn't that fancy," said Tabitha looking for where the treasure would be located. After the entirety of the castle structure seemed to be filled in, at least what could be viewed, a black X appeared. Tabitha knew that where there was an X there was treasure.
"Ok, looks like the treasure is...."
