You wonder if it is just a coincidence that there is always an empty seat next to you where Emily ends up sitting in? Why is it that nobody else wants to sit next to you? How strange is that!
You look in front of you and the teacher begins to explain the new math problems. At first, you feel really confused by all the theory behind the equations and the formulas and the graphs and everything. You worry that you may need to get a tutor since you begin to feel totally lost in math class. But, then… Something happens. You start to understand the problems and the formulas start to make sense. Did you suddenly get smarter? How did that happen? You read the text in the book and you understand everything! You know how to solve all the problems and you know exactly what the teacher is talking about! What the heck?
To make things even more weird, you begin to feel an odd tingling in your muscular legs. You stretch out your legs before you, letting them stretch and rest on the floor. Suddenly, you feel your legs bump up against the rear legs of the chair in front of you.
“Hey! Quit kicking my chair, you moron!” the kid in front of you growls.
You look down at the ground. How did your legs reach all the way to the legs of the chair in front of you? Then it dawned on you. Your legs seemed long… Really long! Like… two or three inches longer than they were just a few moments ago! How did that happen?
The bell rings and everybody stands up and gathers their books and notebooks and packs their backpacks and there is a rush to get out of the classroom. You stand up from the confines of your small desk and you are overcome by a short head rush. You feel dizzy for a brief moment as you look around you. The room seems smaller and the ceiling seems lower. All your classmates seem shorter and everything appears smaller. Did you get taller?
You pack your backpack and look around. Emily is standing there, smiling at you.
“What’s the matter, big guy?”
“Uhh… Something weird… “
“What?”
“Everything seems smaller…”
“You’re a little taller, that’s why!” she grins.
As you start to walk towards the door, the tingling starts to spread to other parts of your body.
