Back in the garage, you made Nina and Leslie sit in a glass pod connected to a tank. The pod had a single chair and sliding glass doors. A tube ran from the top of the pod and into the tank. You fit both Nina and Leslie with mouthpieces that looked like the kind scuba divers wear on long dives. An electronic sensor emitted signals from that mouthpiece to your computer, which read the signals and recorded data onto a program.
“Can you please tell me what we are doing again?” Nina sputtered out from the mouthpiece.
“When I shut the pod doors, the test will begin.” You explained while typing into your computer. “I will record the amount of particulates within the pod as well as their relative concentrations over time. As time elapses, I will use the tank to pump and filter the air within the pod. All you and Leslie have to do is breathe.”
Leslie sighed. All this experimentation seemed rather pointless to her.
“Are you ready? Let’s begin!” You cried as you started the program from the computer. The pod closed. The tank began a low whine as it drew in air from within the pod and replaced it with new air. Electronic sensors on the mouthpieces emitted signals over to your computer. The computer interpreted the type and amount of molecular particles inhaled and exhaled. This process went on for several minutes.
The results were astounding. As time went on, the quantity of old air in the pod became increasingly oxygenated! The percentage of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and other trace particulates slowly dwindled as the percentage of pure oxygen increased. The mouthpiece sensors indicated that both Leslie and Nina were inhaling nitrogen gas and carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen. Moreover, the results were the same for both Leslie and Nina. For all biological intents and purposes, Nina was behaving just like a Czeultian!
You stopped the experiment, letting them out of the pod. Nina reiterated that she felt just the same as before, as when she was normal. When presented with the data, however, Nina‘s eyes bugged out.
“Really? I honestly can’t tell the difference!” She exclaimed.
“Are we done with these silly experiments?” Uttered Leslie. “I could have told you this and saved you time. We’re wasting daytime.”
