Enraged by what just happened to his godfather, Harry Potter chased after Bellatrix Lestrange with the hardest intention of doing the same thing to her. He was so blinded by fury that he ran after her without any backup and without any regard for his own safety.
He managed to catch up with her in the lobby of the Ministry of Magic. She continued laughing sadistically and taunting the teenager all the while. Harry fired a stunning spell after her, but missed the witch by several inches.
Bellatrix took that as a sign to head for cover. She quickly ducked behind the fountain and turned towards Harry. The young wizard knelt down by the fountain on the other side.
He peeked over the ledge and mumbled through gritted teeth “This is the end of the line.”
She chuckled maniacally and retorted “For you, maybe. You really think you can take me on by yourself?”
“Oh, I don’t THINK,” Harry yelled angrily, “I KNOW I will. I’m putting you in the ground if it’s the last thing I do!”
“You sound determined,” Bellatrix muttered cheekily, “Let’s see if you have the ability to carry out that threat.”
“Gladly,” Harry spat heatedly. He rose to his full height, pointed his wand at Bellatrix, and shouted “Crucio!”
Immediately, the witch dropped her wand and collapsed onto the ground. She started shrieking in agony and writing erratically.
Harry smiled in pleasure and gradually walked around the fountain towards Bellatrix. All the while, he kept his wand pointed directly at her. Overtime, she appeared to be in greater and more intense pain.
Before long, Harry was standing directly over Bellatrix, and he kept the Torture Curse on her. He reveled in her misery; it brought him inexplicable delight and satisfaction.
“What’s wrong, Bella?” he commented scathingly, “Am I hurting you? Oh, I’m so sorry. Let me help you ease the pain.”
After he said that, he kicked Bellatrix in the side. She was already in so much pain that the blow from Harry’s foot only added marginally to her pain.
He chuckled in amusement and pronounced “I’m going to make you feel the kind of pain you’ve made so many others feel. Including Sirius. And me.”
If Harry had his way, he would have continued torturing Bellatrix until he killed her. However, he had gotten close enough to her that there was barely any space between the two of them. Also, he was focused entirely on Bellatrix’s upper body, meaning he had left his guard down on everything else, including her lower body.
Amidst her bout of anguish, Bellatrix managed to realize this. So while Harry’s attention was diverted, she swung her legs under his, causing him to trip and stumble onto the ground.
Before Harry had a chance to recover from his fall, Bellatrix moved in. She raised her hand and struck the young wizard hard on the forehead. He fell backwards and hit his head against the fountain. As a result, he was knocked unconscious.
Bellatrix needed a moment to compose herself. Once she felt the effects of the torture curse wear off, she picked up her wand, rose to her full height, and gazed down at the boy with glasses.
She smirked in satisfaction and remarked “Well, the tables have turned unexpectedly. The Dark Lord will be pleased.”
