"Good," Lisa said simply as she sat up in the chair. "I could use a smoke though," she added. "Wait, I smoke?"
"For the weekend you do, yes," Tina said, bringing over Mindy's purse and a pack of cigarettes. "Technically, we're not supposed to smoke in here, but I think we can make an exception for you."
"Thanks," Lisa said, fishing out a pack of Virginia slims and a lighter. Moments later she was inhaling the pungent smoke and exhaling a steady stream as though she'd done so for years. "That's better," she sighed contentedly. "So, who am I?"
"You," Tina said, handing over a thick folder. "Are Ms. Mindy Lang, attorney at law."
"A lawyer? That's good," Lisa said simply. "Wait, Tina, this feels... weird. This should be... I don't know. Exciting? Different? But nothing feels like a big deal. Just... the way things are."
"That's part of the transfer," Tina said, looking over notes on a clip board. "One of the traits that you have is Mindy's levelheadedness. You also have access to all of her education and experience with the law, though you won't be going to work for her at all, she wanted to make sure you could handle weekend emergencies."
"So, this is just for the weekend?" Lisa asked. "I would have thought longer."
"I don't think Ms. Lang could let things go that long. She left you a very detailed itinerary," Tina said, handing over a sheet of paper.
"Hmm," Lisa murmured. "I see what you mean... 7:00 tonight dinner, 8:30 tonight thirty minutes in her personal gym, in bed by 9:30... breakfast tomorrow... she has the whole weekend scheduled to the hour!"
"Well, at least you'll know what you're doing for the next few days," Tina said, trying to make light of it.
"We'll see," Lisa said. "I'll take a look at it when I get home. There may be some room for improvements... Did I just say that? This really is going to be different isn't it?" Lisa asked, snuffing out the remains of her cigarette on an ash tray that Tina had found for her. "Okay, well, I should probably get going then shouldn't I?"
"I have your clothes right here," Tina said, handing over a conservative skirt, blouse and blazer along with a pair of mile high spiked heels.
"You're joking," Lisa said, picking up the shoes. "She wears these? As a lawyer?"
"Well, she, that is, you now, Ms. Lang," Tina said, starting to use the name that Lisa would carry for the next few days. "If you check your ID, you'll see that you're only 4'11" tall."
"Four foot," Lisa said, a little stunned. "Not even five feet tall? No wonder you look bigger than when I came back here." Setting the shoes down for a moment, Lisa slid a pair of black lace underwear up her legs before reaching for a matching bra. "30D? Is this going to fit?" she asked.
"It will fit just fine," Tina said. "You'll find that everything in her wardrobe fits, even though you're not actually the same size."
"I see," Lisa said, slipping into the bra and relaxing as the straps took some of the weight off her chest. She hadn't realized until this moment that she'd been needing the support of a good bra. "Busty little thing aren't I?" Slipping into the skirt and blouse she frowned. "And then cover it all up. There's even a scarf to make sure no one stares at my chest, what fun is that?"
"Well, I gather that Ms. Lang has wanted to be respected for her brain rather than her body," Tina speculated, passing over the last of Mindy's things.
"For someone who covers up this much, she sure cares a lot about her looks. That itinerary has a trip to the gym every single day along with a hair appointment, manicure and pedicure.... Well," she said, sliding her feet into the towering heels as though they were the most comfortable shoes she'd ever worn. "I can figure all of that out later I suppose. Is there anything else?" Lisa asked.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
