Well I can't really keep this from her, can I? you thought to yourself, aware that you were going to definitely need your girlfriend's support as well if you were going to help Randall get through this. Although you and Allison had only been going out for about a year and a half now, and although she had never really taken to Randall as well as you had, you knew that she would want to do as much as she could, being an incredibly sweet and thoughtful girl (which was one of the reasons you liked her so much and what had initially drawn the two of you together in the first place).
"I'm gonna have to tell her," you told your parents, the two of them having clearly expected this answer, nodding their head's supportively.
"What about David and Tabitha, should we let them know too?" your mother then asked, glancing at the door as she did.
This was a harder one to answer, not really wanting your younger siblings dealing with the strangeness of all this and having to go around lying to everyone, yet at the same time realizing that you didn't really want to have to lie to them either and pretend like your best friend was actually dead. A best friend who, let's be honest, was nearly as close to the two of them as he was to you.
After about a moment or two of contemplating this, you eventually said, "Yeah, I guess we should," having come to the decision that keeping this secret from everyone else was going to be hard enough as it was without having to do it to members your own family.
"Alright, I'll let Dr. Saunders know," you father replied, turning towards the door, "He'll want to know so that the three of them can sign more of those wavers.", pausing to add as he reached the handle, "And I'll let the guys know they can come see you now, if that's okay with you."
You nodded to this and watched as your dad then left, feeling your mother give your hand another little squeeze as she smiled reassuringly towards you.
A few hours later, after a rather awkward and drawn out conversation with Tabitha and David, both of them being incredibly confused and unsettled (much like you had been) once they had found out that Randall was now in the body of your teacher, as well as a few more visits from Dr. Saunders, checking to see if you were alright and getting you to sign the paperwork that you had all agreed on, Allison finally appeared, looking very happy to see you as she burst through the door and flung her arms around you, in much the same way as your mother had.
"God, I'm so glad you're okay," she said, holding you tight as you reciprocated the hug, "When you didn't wake up after it happened, I thought I might never see you again!"
Smiling at your girlfriend's concern, you replied with a chuckle, "You can't get rid of me that easily," before breaking the hug and inquiring about her own health.
Informing you that she was fine, having been cushioned by the blow by your body, whom she had been sitting next to in the van (the truck that hit you having plowed into the opposite side where Randall was sat), having managed to escape with little more than a few bruises down her arm and a rather sore head, she then asked about Randall, having seemingly heard very little of what had happened to him.
"Okay, this is gonna sound kind of crazy..." you began, mentally preparing yourself to once again explain this seemingly impossible, almost sci-fi like situation, without the help of your parents this time, who had left the two of you alone to take your brother and sister back home. Explaining everything you'd been told by Dr. Kerry and Dr. Saunders as best you could, aware at first that she though you were making some sort of weird, twisted joke, you watched as her expression changed from one of confusion, to shock, then to total disbelief - her face surely looking a lot like yours had after you'd found out.
"But...but how? I mean, that's not...that's not possible, is it?" she said after you had finished, stuttering and stammering, and almost replicating exactly your initial reaction.
Thankfully at this point, Dr. Saunder's reappeared, having obviously been waiting outside the door, telling Allison as you both looked round that, "I'm afraid it is, Allison. Randall Davis is no longer a 16 year old boy, he's a 29 year old woman now."
Gobsmacked by this, and not knowing quite how to reply (having never actually seen your girlfriend behave like this, Allison usually being very up and bubbly and chatting away all the time), she just stood there by your bed in complete silence as the doctor then continued to explain in much more technical terms to convince her that your story was true. Naturally, once he was done, her sympathies directed themselves towards you, hugging you tightly again and telling you how "horrible" this all was and how sorry she felt for "poor Randall and Miss Card" - Allison perhaps having never had her as a teacher, but having spoken to her quite a few times out of class due to being a member of the yearbook committee and Miss Card having volunteered to help out with that.
Letting her get to grips with this information for a couple of minutes, as well as informing her that you were alright and that Randall was going to remain your friend no matter what, Dr. Saunders then brought up the matter of privacy and keeping this information a secret from the public, as well as giving her the various papers to sign. Although it was obvious that this idea was a little disturbing for her, Allison not being overly sure how Randall was just going to slot into Miss. Card's life as easy as that, clearly also having some concerns about the ethics of it all (though not actually coming out and saying as much), she decided to go along with it for your sake and quickly signed the waver much to Saunders' delight.
"I can't believe it. This is all just so...bizarre. Randall being Miss Card," she said once Saunders had left, "How do you think he's going to take it when he wakes up?"
"I have no idea," you replied, aware that it wasn't exactly going to be like getting up one morning and finding that you had a completely new pair of socks, hoping that he didn't just snap and go completely crazy, as you imagined most people might in such a situation.
With visiting time nearly over, feeling happier now that you'd seen both your family and your girlfriend, Allison said her goodbyes, kissing you on the lips and telling you that she'd be back to see you tomorrow, before being shooed out of the room by an angry looking, middle aged nurse, leaving you alone again, almost for the first time since you'd woken up - your day so far having been quite a hectic and emotional roller coaster ride. Thankfully, Saunders had earlier said you that you'd probably be allowed out tomorrow or the next day, what with your condition having greatly improved and seeing no reason now to keep you in any longer.
It was this thought then that you tried to focus on as you drifted off, the nurse having given you another sedative before she'd left to help you get some sleep...
