Maybe the elevator girl swiped it

         Despite her attire, Jessica suddenly felt her tiny four foot tall self standing below the tall desk with the imperious woman glaring down at her, while the two policemen looked at her bemusedly. “Now really dear, St. Mary’s can’t just hand out cash to anyone who happens to be nearby when a girl goes truant, can we?”

         Jessica is barely holding back tears now as she sobs, “I don’t even care about your stupid reward money! I just want my ID back!” Seeing how little affect that has on the admissions desk lady, Jessica whirls round to the older officer (since she didn’t accidentally run into him earlier), “I think – I think it happened in the elevator, Sir! That girl with the old nun! I was standing right next to her when I felt my purse being yanked!” Getting little reaction from the older cop, Jessica whirls on the younger cop, pleading, “You’ve got to believe me! My name is Jessica Summers! Someone in here stole my ID!”, and she tries to hug the policeman, who merely takes her purse from her and holds it too high for Jessica to reach while he rifles through it before placing it on the admissions lady’s desk.

         The older policeman mumbles something to the younger cop, and then to the admissions woman, and they all leer at Jessica like they have this all figured out. Seeing all too clearly how this is going, Jessica is in a panic now, and stomps her little foot on the marble floor, yelling in her little voice, “I demand to see that student from the elevator. She has my ID! I just know it! “, but the cops and desk lady ignore her as if she’s having a tantrum that will blow over, while they turn from her and confer among each other. When the obvious adults in the room turn around to face Jessica -
