At the table near you, a young woman, a few years older than you, was sitting down with a salad, a yoghurt with granola, and an orange juice. But the odd thing was that she was missing the entire right half of her body. Odder still was the fact that her tray still looked rather neatly set up - you would expect someone simultaneously carrying a tray with one hand and hopping on one leg to drop her tray, or spill some of the food, but then again, the note did say something about people altered by the katana perfectly adapting to their situation.
A minute later, you saw what you quickly figured out was the right half, with her own tray. She had a burger from the Burgerois, a big piece of chocolate cake and a large cola. Again, despite having only one arm and one leg, she didn’t spill anything and sat down at the same table as the left half.
“Really? I thought we agreed to cut back on that sort of food” the left half said.
“Oh, lighten up. This is a special occasion.” the right half replied, not missing a beat.
“I know, but it’s just that any weight you gain from that, I’ll gain half of it when we rejoin”
The right half rolled her eye.
“Geez, why do you always have to embarrass me in public every time we go out?”
“I’m sorry. I just sometimes get a little concerned for you.”
“Whatever. I guess I could just burn it off at gym.”
Obviously, the two halves had different personalities - at face value, the left half was more logical and rational, whilst the right seemed more emotional. It wasn’t that the left half wasn’t emotional at all, or that the right half completely lacked logical thought, just that their personalities were dominated by how their half-brains operated. You guessed that maybe skills, knowledge and experience were shared by the two halves whenever they separated.
Their eating styles were also different - the left half was very neat, as if she was in a fine restaurant, not spilling anything, whilst the right half was a tad sloppier. A bit of burger spilled onto her chin, and she picked it off with her fingers. Neither one spilled anything due to the lack of a full mouth, presumably because they had likely eaten when halved before.
Once they were both done, the two halves rejoined each other and became one whole woman again. She grabbed both her shoulder bags and went on her way. Meanwhile, you were contemplating what to do next, and now you had already decided what to do...
