This choice: The woman has her camera out for pictures • Go Back...Chapter #10The woman has her camera out for pictures by: knuckles Perspective is a crazy thing at this size. In the mildly hazy distance, the woman stands normally. In her hand is clutched a semi-professional camera. These things made sense to your human mind, seeming to contextualize the gigantic creature holding a massive black device as what it is. On the other hand, your instinctual mind seems to want to dumb you down. It screams "Big thing being held by even bigger thing! Run! Hide!" Instinct had saved you a few times out here, but only when you combined it with reason had you gone from dumb animal to true survivalist. You relied on that balance again. What was there to be afraid of at this very moment? Giant human, and giant human dropping giant camera on you. Yet, the woman is over a dozen steps away, by her scale, and people usually don't drop their expensive cameras. Further, being at the base of the tree, you were not in a walking path. You were safe, at least where you were.
The woman was likely to be about to take some photos, "DUH", your mind mocked you. Of what, you couldn't be sure. Hell, she could be here for a job, a project, or for her own pleasure. She could be here a day, or a week. She might be here for a specific creature or plant, or just anything and everything that moved. You weren't going to influence her agenda at your size. Well...unless you got caught. You resolved immediately that despite your fascination, and the observations and notes you'd obviously take, you must avoid that at all costs. You were so close to being able to wrap up the project, and you needed the next few weeks to do just that. Not to mention the hours upon hours of writing you had put off in order to fulfill your basic needs. Like a squirrel storing for winter, you had stored food away to prepare for your relative reclusion coming up soon.
Her interference could come in many forms. Death, that's the big one. She could capture you. Destroy your home. Or she could cause some chain of events that led to your demise. After all, Trevorina still lurked in the area, unless she'd been a fresh victim of the woman. For some reason a part of you hoped not. Her presence might chase some creatures away, but it might lure others. Some you likely had not yet witnessed. In short, her presence was a change in the balance of nature, upended by one single graduate aged woman going camping.
You resolved to continue your earlier task, more water. While the giant could hoist and consume a water container larger than your home with ease, you needed a few more drops to make it through the next 3-4 days. You step inside to retrieve your container, returning momentarily to see that the woman is crouching near the tent, a white flower the target of her and her camera's attention. Perhaps she is here for the flora, or it could be a test photo before she heads off to hunt deer or other large creatures. Perhaps a comprehensive study of the glade, which may very well lead her to stumbling upon your home. Whatever she plans, you return to your own tasks, mindful that you will observe the observer soon enough. Container now strapped to your back, you proceed towards the stream once more, watching everywhere for any further creatures, big or small. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
