Chapter #6

She is a victim of a pesky jutsu

The day had started off normally. It was a rare day off for Hinata, and she intended to use it for training in one of her frequent efforts to better herself. Hinata woke up in her home, showered, eaten, and left to train. It took all morning, and Hinata didn't really feel like it made much of a difference, but she worked hard and Hinata was pleased with herself for that at least.

Deciding it was time for lunch, Hinata took off for Ichiraku's. Hinata loved ramen. She had tried it a few years back in an effort to be more like Naruto, and was delighted to find that his favorite food was amazing to eat. Hinata's thoughts naturally went from ramen to Naruto. She spent the entire walk thinking about him, barely paying enough attention to get to Ichiraku's. It didn't matter though. It was right around the corner anyways, maybe Naruto was in there now. She could sit by him and talk, almost like a proper da-

Crash!

'Ouch' Hinata gingerly rubbed her head. She looked over and saw a balding man in a brown suit on the ground as well. He was clutching his ankle and a air of glasses lay on the ground. In between them, a round dark stone with a strange symbol lay flat on the ground, a yellowed cloth half covering it.

"Hey, watch where you're going next time!" The man angrily said, as he groped the ground, scanning for his glasses.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" Hinata apologized kindly. She grabbed his glasses and offered them to him. "Here you go."

He grabbed them without thanking her and savagely put them on. "H-hey! Stop!" He suddenly screamed when he saw Hinata was going to pick up the stone for him as well.

Hinata pulled back, alarmed. "I-I'm sorry."

He waved her off and crawled over, using the cloth to wrap the mysterious stone and pick it up. He put it in his pocket and tried to stand.

"It's no good." He spat at Hinata as he fell over again. "I need to get this delivered, and now thanks to you, I'm not walking anywhere."

Hinata didn't like the man. He was rude and ungrateful, but it was her fault they crashed together. A sense of duty took a hold of her. "I-I can deliver it for you, i-if you'd like."

The man stopped grumbling and looked up her, almost as if he were seeing her for the first time. "You would do that for me, would you?"

         Hinata nodded.

"Alright then. It's going to the Hokage, Tsunade Senju. Are you a ninja?"

         Hinata nodded again.

"That's good. that means you know where the Hokage's manor is?"

This man must be from out of the village. Everyone knew where the manor was, even regular civilians. Instead of pointing this out, Hinata just said "Yes."

"Take it straight there, and whatever you do, do not touch the stone. It's only meant for the Hokage of this village."

Hinata wanted to question why, but her manners forbade it. She accepted the wrapped stone and with one fleeting look at Ichiraku's, Hinata began her delivery. She simply put the stone in her loose pocket as she walked.

After a while, Hinata felt her pants begin to droop a little, and realized the stone seemed to be getting heavier. She brought it out and fixed her pants, and to her surprise, the stone was glowing blue through the cloth. Curious, she carefully opened it up. Hinata examined it as it slowly got heavier and heavier.

         "I wonder what you are?"

Suddenly, a flash of orange in the corner of her eye made her look up; years of watching Naruto made orange a colour guaranteed to grab Hinata's attention. It was him. Hinata watched Naruto walk down the road, passing right by her without noticing. She was so focused on him, she barely felt the stone slip out of her distracted hand. In a flash Hinata dove to catch it, but in her haste, her hand closed upon the stone itself.

Instantly Hinata knew she messed up. The stone burned her flesh and she dropped the rock again. Hinata looked at her red hand to see a black marking that matched the mysterious rune from the stone. The stone, incidentally, had stopped glowing; its spell released on the first person to touch it. Hinata, though curious and fairly alarmed about the new mark on her skin, wanted to finish her mission before going to get it checked out. She picked up the stone, not bothering with the cloth this time, and finished her hike to the Hokage's manor.

Unfortunately, once she arrived, Hinata was tole by Tsunade's personal assistant, Shizune, that the Hokage was away for a diplomatic meeting. Hinata left the rock in Sizune's care and headed for the hospital to see if she somehow got a curse mark of some kind. Her hand had been bugging her the whole time she walked, burning off and on again and the terrible thought of a curse mark hit her like a truck. She had heard that Sasuke had one before he left the village, and all the trouble it had caused.

It wasn't until about halfway to the hospital that something noteworthy happened. Hinata was walking as usual, clutching her palm, when a dreadful heat filled it. Worse than before, Hinata looked at it again and was shocked to see that the rune had changed. Where before it was unreadable to her, now it clearly had the kanji symbol for...
