As they continued talking, they heard something metallic bounce off the ground. Derrick looked down to see that the magic shapesihfting medallion had re-appeared and fell to the ground. Derrick rolled his eyes, “You have to be kidding me!!??”
Dad and Mom both knew what happened. The time on Derrick’s shapeshifting power had ran out. The medallion re-appeared and now Derrick was stuck in his current form.
From his 4 year old girl’s body, Derrick looked up at the clock and sighed. With all their talking, nobody was paying attention to the time. Derrick sighed and crossed his arms. He felt dumb for not watching the time close enough. It wouldn’t be the first time he ended up stuck in his shapeshifted form. Over the years they had all made plenty of mistakes. Derrick normally wouldn’t have cared so much, but he was excited to go to the game. He looked at Dad and asked, “We are still going to the game right?”
Dad nodded, “Uhh…” Dad looked at Mom looking for approval given the current situation. Dad asked her, “We can still go right?”
Mom thought for a moment and said, “Derrick is only 4 now. The game doesn’t start until 8. That’s a bit late for a girl his age to be out…”
“Please Mom! It’s not everyday we get courtside tickets to a basketball game! What if we just stay for the first half?” Derrick looked up and gave the best pouty face he could.
Mom finally gave in, “Ok. If you promise to come home at halftime. You are going to need some clothes though. There is a box of Katyln’s old stuff upstairs. We are going to have to find our old car seat too. It’s in the garage somewhere.”
Derrick’s eyes got wide, “Car seat?”
Dad agreed, “She is right. I can’t risk being pulled over without you in a car seat.”
Derrick shrugged his shoulders, “Whatever. At least we will see some of the game!”
