Mike was lost in his work as he usually was. With some old school pencil and paper in hand he hastily scribbled notes and outlines as his thoughts came to him. One of Mike's gifts as a writer especially thanks to the medallion was the ability to put into flowery writing every little difference his body experienced when he was somebody, or something, else. Even when Denise brought out his steaks he cut them up and ate with one hand while he scribbled more notes with the other. Finally after hours and hours of relentless writing, Mike let out a long yawn. For the first time in hours he looked up from his paper and was surprised to see the sun had already gone down. Just as he realized this, Denise walked into the barn leading in the horses.
"There you are Denise. The day went by so fast, I swear this was one of my best brainstorming sessions in a while. I'll definitely have to come back to centaurs and maybe more mythical creatures sooner rather than later."
"That's fantastic Mike!" Denise said as she finished putting the horses into their individual stalls. She walked over to Mike who bent down and they gave each other a long kiss. "But I can't wait to get my husband back to share a bed with instead of a stable."
"That can be as soon as tonight. How much time do you have left with the medallion?" Mike asked expectantly.
Denise looked confused, "What? Oh, I haven't used it yet, and I don't really have a reason to. Besides, you were so wrapped up in your work I thought you wanted to stay like that for a while."
"I assumed you'd have used the medallion as soon as you saw I was stuck like this."
"Well you assumed wrong sweety. I've got to run some errands as Dennis tomorrow morning so I don't think I can get it back to you until tomorrow evening."
Mike groaned, normally Denise's outings as 'Dennis' were a nice break for him so he didn't have to haul the heavier items when Denise went out shopping, but now it seemed Dennis was the reason he'd have the spend the night in the barn with the animals. "Now don't be sour Mike, if you didn't want this to happen you'd keep better track of time, you really should upgrade to a smartphone so you can carry around an alarm clock in your pocket to warn you when the medallion's about to run out. Now if you'll help me, I can get the birthing stall ready for you, it should be big enough so you can lay down fairly comfortably."
Mike got a bail of hey and spread it out over the floor while Denise got Mike some blankets so he could have some home comforts. Mike kissed his wife goodnight, and Denise closed the stall behind him as Mike figured out how to get comfortable. After making a bunch of mental notes about how he as a centaur was feeling at this moment, he finally drifted off to sleep.
Mike slept for long time, but was rudely awakened by an guest to his stall who was not so gently nudging him. Mike finally opened his eyes and was surprised to see who had awoken him.
