Fortunately for Amber, she was heading back home from her walk already, so she could get to trying this thing out immediately. Within five minutes, she'd turned back onto her street, and was heading to the end where her home was. The teenager shied away from everyone on the street, keeping to herself. A few young kids were playing in the road, but most were too loud for her, she enjoyed her peace and quiet, and they'd ruin it frequently.
She rushed home, fumbling for the key in her pocket. She slipped quietly inside. Her mother and father would be at work right now, and her little sister, Samantha, was at school. The girl went into the kitchen, taking an apple from the fruit bowl. If she was going to test this, she'd need a subject after all.
Amber then rushed upstairs and into her room, gently slipping her rucksack off her back and taking the strange ray gun out. She set the apple down on a stool, before pointing the ray at it. She'd explore the settings later, but an initial test-fire was warranted. She couldn't help but notice the switch on the side set to a position marked with the letter:
