Chapter #5FacelessFred23 Shows His True Face by: Rita "Message me when you get home today, it's important," read the text from Fred. Fred almost exclusively used an anonymous message board to talk with Pete. Pete thought it was pretty strange, but Fred insisted that was the way they only way he could talk to him. He only had Pete's phone number in case of emergencies. Although these emergencies were usually nothing more than Fred getting bored and wanting someone to talk to. Pete was planning on messaging him when he got home anyways, so he paid no mind to the text and walked home leisurely.
...
"Ah..." Pete let out of sigh of relief, as he slumped into the comfortable of his desk chair. After a long day of school, Pete found solace in his computer and the wonderful world of the internet. These moments of zen usually included Pete blasting heavy metal through his headphones, watching Netflix for hours on end, or the occasional gaming session. Before Pete instinctively clicked the play icon on his spottily playlist, he remembered Fred's urgent text. Opening a new tab, Pete went to their private message board and sent him message.
Pete: Hey man, what's up?
FacelessFred23: Pete, what took you so long! I've been waiting for like an hour!
P: Hey, whoa there buster brown. Why are you so upset?
F: I thought we agreed that if I texted you, it meant it was an emergency. Emergency means right away, man.
P: Well shit, dude. I'm sorry. I'm here now, tell me your troubles.
F: I got more than troubles. I'm in some serious shit and I need your help
Pete paused his music and reread Fred's last message. Fred has never said anything like that before. Every conversation Pete had with Fred was calm and chill. He had never been this worked up before. Maybe he's in actual trouble, Pete thought what he should type back, If he needs a friend right now, I got to step up and be there for him.
P: Fred, If you need help, I'll do everything I can. I got your back, dude.
F: I knew I could count on you. But before I tell you what's going down, I need to be upfront with you. I'm not really who I say I am.
This wasn't really that big of a bombshell to drop on Pete. He had suspected the entire time that Fred probably wasn't another 18 year old boy. Why else would he be so weird about keeping everything secret. But in all honesty, Pete didn't mind all that much. Pete didn't really care how old Fred was or what Fred looked like, he was his friend. They talked to each other for 2 entire years, and within that time have gotten pretty close. Even so, Pete had always paid attention to see if Fred ever made any weird, creepy comments, just in case this was some kind of "Catfish" like scenario. But so far that hasn't happened, so Fred was cool in Pete's book.
P: Yeah, I kind of figured. I mean it's a little obvious, Fred
F: And you don't mind?
P: Not really. I think I know the real you by now, personality wise anyways. Whoever you are in real life doesn't matter.
F:Well that's good to hear Pete, because I'm actually... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
