"I can't believe you tried to set two of your friends up on a date with each other." Jessica gasped to her friend Kiran as they stood in goods in, having a moment from their hectic work schedule. "I could never do anything like that, not even to someone I don't know." she added, shaking her head in genuine shock. Of course, Jessica was the kind of quiet, polite young woman that was easily shocked by some things.
"What?? They hit it off, and left to their own devices, they'd have never made a move. I just... rushed things along a bit." Kiran responded with a smirk, as she folded her arms under her small but perky breasts.
"You're really one of a kind, you know that." Jessica smirked, shaking her head once more.
Kiran licked her lips briefly. "I'll take that as a compliment." she giggled. "Now, um... I'll leave you to your housekeeping duties, this place is a mess." she muttered, taking a look around.
"Gee thanks." Jessica sighed, hating the fact that Liz has assigned her the task of cleaning up the Goods Inwards area. It was filthy, and Jessica was a girl who liked to keep herself clean and looking good. After Kiran had exited the vicinity and gone back to work, Jessica clicked over to the cleaning trolley in her high heeled ankle boots and grabbed an old pair of gloves. They were men's gloves, and her dainty hands swam in them, much to her chagrin. But it was better than nothing.
"Right, you and me Mr. Brush, for the win!" Jessica said, grabbing a nearby large brush.
********
15 minutes later Jessica had made steady progress, and a large pile of rubbish was in the middle of the floor. Several shelves were also free of stains and dust, and Jessica was now maneuvering herself in between some other shelving to whack a large, vacant cobweb behind. She soon saw the congealed pile of spilled paint on the floor, with a couple of lids solidified in place. "Eww, gross!" Jessica grimaced. The paint had obviously been there for a very long time.
"No way I'm getting that off the floor. I'd need an industrial sand blaster or something." Jessica mumbled to herself. Just as she was about to wriggle free of the shelving, she saw a glint of metal on the floor nearby to where the paint was. For some reason, her curiosity kicked in, and she got further behind the fixturing... at the expense of her name badge, which got snagged on a shelf and ripped from her Wilko shirt. "Crap!" Jessica grunted, as she struggled to reach the metal object she was trying to reach.
Eventually, she grabbed it, and then she reversed herself out of the tight space, being careful not to stumble in her heels. "Great!" Jessica sighed, as she looked down at the dust on her usually spotless trousers. She cleaned off what she could, then turned her attention to the 'thing' she had retrieved.
It bore a vague resemblence to a remote of some kind, but only had a single button in the middle. Whatever the thing was, it had certainly seen better days, and had obviously been behind the shelving for years. The building was decades old, and Jessica knew this. A lot of the dark surface paint had been scraped off, revealing a titanium material underneath, and it was the titanium that had caught Jessica's attention. And at the top of the device, several letters were ledgible, but noly just. Two words, obviously, the first began with a 'G', and it also had a 'T' in it and it ended with an 'L'. Only a single 'P' and several undistinguishable other letters comprised the second word.
"Just scrap metal." Jessica shrugged, throwing it on a nearby shelf.
As she grabbed her brush again, Jessica suddenly heard a faint beep, and when she looked over to the device, she noticed the small LED light at the top of the device was now glowing red. "What in the world..." Jessica frowned, picking up the device again and wiping some of the grime off it. "What is this thing?" she asked herself, having no clue. If it was a 'remote', then what was it used on? Televisions, some other contraptions, or... people... as bizarre as it sounded?
Jessica knew the only way to find out, was the push the button and see. She did this... but nothing happened, not surprisingly. "Maybe if I aim it at something electrical, or maybe some people?" she thought. She was clutching at straws here, and she was also wasting company time. "Lets test this so I can get back to work." Jessica said, sighing deeply before walking out onto the shop floor.
