"Perfect," Maya said, her shoulders still shaking with laughter.
Phoenix was down on the floor before her sandal-clad feet. She'd stopped him somewhere between one and two inches, by the look of him.
He wasn't happy, it seemed.
"M-Maya, help-!!"
Maya crouched down as low as she could, staring at her diminutive friend. He took a step back, apparently intimidated by her size.
"It's OK, Nick," she said, forcing herself to stop laughing for a moment. "You're OK."
"OK-!? Maya, look at me, I'm-"
"Reeaally tiny, I know."
She made to pick him up. Nick panicked but couldn't escape her hand.
"It's just me, Nick. Nothing to be afraid of. You think a great big Maya is gonna hurt you?"
Nick took a fierce grip on her thumb to steady himself. "Maya, are you gonna tell me what the hell happened to me-?"
"Oh, sure. That's easy. It's a new technique I picked up at home."
"So you did this? Why?"
Maya smiled, playfully poking a fingertip at Nick's chest. He tried to force it back, but just the tip of her index finger was about as big as his whole upper body. "'Cuz you're way cuter like this." she said plainly. Pushing him over, she pinned him on his back in her palm with just one fingertip. "Aw, come on. I've seen you without your shirt on, Nick, you've got abs for days. Don't tell me you can't push my little finger away."
"M-Maya, it's the size of a small car...!" Phoenix argued, still trying his best to free himself.
Maya gave a theatrical sigh and released him. Dropping back to the couch, she continued to gaze at him.
"If you're worried that I'll squish you by mistake, Nick, it's OK -- the scroll said you'd be way tougher now."
Phoenix was panting as he got back to his feet in her hand. "I'd rather not test that, Maya..."
Maya shrugged. "Alright."
She wondered how much longer everyone else would take to arrive. She wanted to play around with Nick while she had time, but...
