This choice: Against her better judgement, Dakota stays while Zack and Piper pig out  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

An Afternoon at Decadent D's

    by: Herly Author IconMail Icon
Dakota glanced down at the empty donut box, her middle taut against her shirt and the waistband of her jeans. For a brief moment, she bit her lip and felt suddenly nervous. She couldn't quite put a finger on why but sticking around seemed like a bit of a bad idea to her.

Then her gaze averted upwards towards the waiting-and hungry-eyes of her friends. Piper raised an eyebrow expectantly and Zack glanced away from her gaze with a nervous chuckle, meeting the attention of the display case instead of her eyes. The brunette gave a chuckle and leaned back in the booth with a shrug. "Well," She said, pointing a frosting-smeared finger at Piper, "As long as you're buying, I think we could stay a bit longer."

Piper pumped a fist dramatically, grinning. "Whoo!" She exclaimed, slapping the table and standing, revealing the way her stomach pressed lightly against her tight t-shirt. "So, one malt for everyone, then? I'll get all three flavors and we can share 'em, or something."

Before Zack or Dakota could even reply, the dark-haired girl was off towards the counter and the pudgy girl operating it, a hungry look in her eyes. Dakota sighed and gave Zack a smile from across the table. He shrugged and said, "You'll get used to her. She has an excess of excitement."
They both laughed and, when Piper returned with the malts, tried each one... Along with much of the second dozen of donuts that she'd purchased.

"Ooogh, god..." Dakota groaned from her seat in the corner, forehead resting on the cool tile of the wall as one hand rubbed at the taut dome of her middle. "No more. I yield."

Zack chuckled and popped the last bite of his maple-glazed donut into his mouth and leaned back, sighing happily. "Too much for you, huh?" He asked, to which Dakota gave a weak nod.

Piper snickered as she licked some icing from her fingers and took a sip of her milkshake, stretching in her booth. For the better part of another hour they'd worked their way through the next dozen donuts and three shakes, leaving Dakota near-comatose. Zack was finally full-that boy seemed to have one hell of an appetite- and Piper had taken to it as though someone had told her she couldn't finish it all. Still, all of them looked a bit green around the gills. "C'mon, Dakota," Piper piped up, smiling as she rose from the booth and offered a hand to Dakota, "Unless you wanna sleep at D's, we should probably get going. They're not open for dinner, y'know?"

Zack slid out from beside Piper and stretched, cracking his back, "Yeah, most donut places aren't." His darkhaired companion glanced over at him with a wry grin, making him raise an eyebrow. "What?"

Piper prodded the slightly shorter boy in the middle and said, "Looks like we know who got the most. It was my giftcard, y'know."

Zack swatted her hand away and tugged the hem of his shirt further down over his rounded middle, huffing. "Hey, I had just as much as you and Dakota. Not my fault it's more obvious on me since I don't... Y'know..."

"Don't what?" Piper asked as Dakota rose unsteadily to her feet, looking as though she might hurl from all the sweetness crammed into her aching middle.

"Y-Y'know... Don't have...." Zack began to blush a bit, hands moving up to his chest as though to mime something but then falling limply to his sides, "Ugh, nevermind. You two are incorrigible."

"Right, whatever, brainiac," Piper said with a roll of her eyes as she turned her attention to her female friend, "You alright, D?"

Dakota gave a weak nod, her head bobbing back and forth as though it were on a spring as they all began to move towards the exit. The friendly girl at the counter, just getting off shift, gave them a wave.

"Have a nice night! Come again soon!" She called behind them.

The thought of eating sugar again in the next two weeks made Dakota feel even worse... Why had she let herself get talked into this?
