Nodding Cheryl rose and crossed the room for the closet. Looking for her hoodie jacket, the girl’s mind wandered again, asking no one in particular, “Did she know who’s house it was?” Hoping it wasn’t the house of one Monica’s neighborhood friends, and it was that they were away. “No, all she knew was that the dad owned a show downtown.” Naomi answered from behind her, checking a bag she had. Putting on her hoodie, Cheryl nodded to her sister and exited the house and made their way to Monica’s house.
Within 10 minutes and two blocks away, the sisters could not only feel something off, but all see more strangeness than described. Scattered across multiple yards were the broken and burnt pieces of camouflage and yellow plastic. And as they neared the next street, they found more and more toy parts. “Man what the hell happened here?” Cheryl asked in confusion, bending down to pick up a grinning blond male head with a buzz cut. Looking up the young lady caught a detail that either her sister or Monica forgot to mention.
“Does everyone here drive a van?” She half joked pointing to a open white van parked next to a fire hydrant. “Nnooo,” her sister replied, noticing the street dotted with white vans that would occasionally have two workers talking near or in them. “And Moni didn’t say anything about them,” scanning as they walked the two watched as the workers would pick up the several copies of miniature soldiers.
“Oh they must be here for cleaning this mess up,” Naomi said waving off her worry. Cheryl on the other hand stared at the side of a van that they passed, reading “Globotech” to herself.
Turning a corner, they mouths hung open. In front of them was parked delivery truck that had it back open, and inside was a mess of wires, power tools and tanks, and differing styles of toy cars and vehicles…
