As Marni' show went to commercial, Alice’s thoughts drifted back to the frustrations of fashionable outfits when she was bigger. She had regularly railed against the meager offerings of the plus-sized shop, though her sister Mel and many fat friends from Buttercombe had just made do with those limited selections.
At her current size, Alice had more choices, but she hadn’t forgotten what it was like being a big girl - and there were still many cute outfits that didn't come in her size! So, hearing that there were plus-size designers right here in Abercrombie piqued her curiosity. Would some of them even teach in the fashion program at ASU? Alice could only hope.
In the meantime, though, before classes began, she could scope out the Abercrombie fashion scene - she had Zack had been so busy moving, finding a place, unpacking, settling in, and just spending time together than except for the supermarket and the hardware and furniture stores, they hadn't really seen the town.
Though, thinking back, Alice remembered having an impression that the salespeople in the furniture store were well-dressed. And that the guys in the hardware store had been, well, big. Not to mention some of the check-out girls at the supermarket. Could it be that Ken Glen had some family here? Or was it just chance that she had seen some big folk?
Moving immediately on her idea - it involved fashion, after all! - Alice dressed carefully, applied light but stylish make-up, and spent a few minutes considering which shoes. Perhaps she should get another pair, to go with the brown linen?
Driving away from the condo, Alice realised that she didn't have a map of Abercrombie. Oh well, first stop the tourist bureau - they would know about shops and designers too, maybe. And there were easy-to-follow signs to find them!
