(Minor spoilers for Kawakami's Confidant)
“Akira... Akira, wake up!”
Akira grunted, shaking the grogginess off as he opened his eyes to see a concerned Ann and Futaba looking down at him.
“Wh... where are we?” Akira asked, sitting up.
“We're still in your room, Akira, but... look...”
Akira caught his bearings and looked around, only to be completely floored by what he saw. They were indeed still in his room, but everything was now unfathomably big. His coffee table, couch, and bed towered above him, and the stairs leading down to LeBlanc seemed to be miles away. They had to be the size of ants, or possibly fleas.
“Akira, what's happened to us?!” Ann cried, clearly on the verge of panic.
“Calm down,” Akira said automatically. “We need to think of a plan. Presumably, the others are shrunk too. Where are they?”
“We haven't seen 'em,” Futaba said, trying her best to remain calm. “I'm assuming they're wherever they were when we were big. Let's see... the three of us were sitting on the floor. Obviously. Mona was on table, Haru-chan and Little Nijima were sitting on the bed, and Inari and Blonde Idiot were on the couch.”
A tiny, yet audible cry of “WHAT THE EFFIN' HELL?!” came from the couch.
“And still are, apparently,” said Akira. “Alright. I think we should head for...”
He was interrupted by the sound of the cafe door opening downstairs. Did Sojiro come back? If so, perhaps there was a way to...
“Oh Maaaaaasteeeeer~” a falsely cheerful voice bellowed from downstairs. Akira's face morphed from determination to confusion. Then dread.
Sadayo Kawakami was having a bad day. First, that shrew Ms. Chuono called her out on her class's low attendance record in front of the Vice Principal. Then the Takases called and threatened to tell the school about her second job if she didn't step up her payment to the end of the week. And now, to top it off, she could only get one maid assignment tonight, losing out once again to the younger maids.
Ah well, Kawakami thought with a tired smile as she came up to LeBlanc. At least it's here. As strange as it was working for him as a maid, Kawakami was growing to enjoy this extra time spent with her favorite student. Most of the time, she didn't even have to do chores. They would simply sit on his comfy futon and talk.
Of course, sometimes that twerp makes me do his laundry, Kawakami thought with a smirk as she opened the door, but nobody's perfect.
“Oh Maaaaaasteeeeer~” she called in her patented Becky voice. She waited for Akira's customary smartass retort to her calling him master, but was met with silence. “Akira-kun?” she called in her normal voice, stepping inside and closing the door behind her. “Are you here?” Silence. She narrowed her eyes and looked around the cafe. “Did he cancel and forget to tell me?” Looking at the counter, she saw an envelope that obviously had yen notes sticking out of it, as well as a letter in Akira's handwriting addressed to her.
Kawakami-sensei, the note read. I apologize for calling for you tonight only to not be here, but there was an emergency. Sojiro's daughter just collapsed. I'm going with them to the hospital.
“Oh my god!” Kawakami exclaimed.
It's too late to call and cancel as I write this, and I don't want you to have come here for nothing, so your usual fee is in the envelope. I guess dust the corners or whatever if you have to tell the agency you did something, but otherwise, feel free to use the hour just to relax here. I know how worn out you must be with all the work you do.
Sincerely, Your Master.
P.S. Just to warn you, I saw some small bugs, possibly fleas, in my room earlier today. I think the cat brought them in. I apologize in advance for the disgusting conditions, and included an extra 3,000 yen to compensate.
Kawakami folded the note, a kind smile on her face and tears threatening her eyes. What a thoughtful young man, being concerned for her with everything else going on. She made a note to talk to Akira privately after school tomorrow to check on him and his makeshift family, but for now, she strode up the stairs to his room, cleaning supplies in hand. For his selflessness, Akira Kurusu would come home tonight to find his room spotless.
And if she saw any bugs crawling around, they'd get what was coming to them. She couldn't let them get downstairs into the cafe, after all.
Akira, Ann, and Futaba stared at the stairwell in horror as the sound of someone coming up the stairs. “Who is that?” Ann asked Akira. “It sounded like...”
Kawakami arrived upstairs, setting down her bucket of cleaning supplies. She glanced around, surveying the room ahead of her. The attic was just as dusty and cluttered as it always was. Definitely a breeding ground for pests, she thought.
Ann stared up at her mile high teacher, her terror completely giving way to confusion. “Akira,” she said, glancing sidelong at her friend and leader. “Why is our homeroom teacher in your room? At night? In a MAID COSTUME?”
Akira was rapidly losing his cool as he backed away from the giantess before him. “This isn't the time for that conversation, Ann!”
“I think it is!”
“Watch out!” Futaba yelled as Kawakami started to move again. “It's MEGA MAID!”
The trio abandoned their argument and ran for their lives as the monlithic maid took a step towards them.
Welp, Kawakami thought, stepping into the room with a determined smile and a cocky stride. Time to get to work!
