Practice Room Panic

(Spoilers for P4, and DAN. Set after P4, takes place during P4:DAN)

About half a year passed since the Investigation Team solved the serial killings in the peaceful, rural town of Inaba. Summer vacation had been over for a while, but the heat still clings. Today, they had to come to a certain production company’s office for a particular purpose.

Naoto Shirogane stroked her chin in thought. “Rise-san’s very late. It’s past time for our lesson already.” Upon saying so, Naoto looked up at the clock on the wall.

Yu Narukami nodded, taking a look at his own cell phone. “No text or voicemail from her. What about you?”

“Me neither, it seems,” Naoto said, shaking her head. “I wonder if something happened…” She paused, not wanting to entertain the thought. “But in that case, I’d think you’d be the first one Rise-san would contact, Senpai.”

The two waited in silence. They knew that Rise was pretty busy staging her comeback, but she would have told them if something had come up.

“Should I give her a call?” Yu asked.

“No, we can wait a little longer. Her work schedule is tight enough to begin with. It’s us who are imposing on her time…” She trailed off. “Or rather, it’s me.”

The two had been in the production studio for the sole purpose of teaching Naoto how to dance. She wasn’t as quick of a learner on this subject compared to others. Thankfully, Yu had volunteered to help since Rise was busy most of the time. Plus, he provided a morale boost like always. For some reason, Rise insisted having her friends join her for her comeback performance at the Love Meets Bonds Festival.

Naoto and Yu were idly searching for conversation topics before they suddenly felt light headed.

“Naoto! Wake up!”

The detective woke up to the sight of Yu hunched over her. He had been nudging her shoulder, trying to wake her. Naoto sat up, massaging her temples. “What happened?”

“We shrunk,” Yu said, completely serious.

Naturally, Naoto didn’t believe this. However, once her vision cleared, she realized that Yu wasn’t exaggerating. The practice studio they were in seemed to stretch on for hundreds of miles.

“How on earth…”

Before the two could even adapt to their surroundings, the floor began to rumble. They were quiet, but they quickly began to grow more intense by the quake.
