Chapter #7

Friends to Look Up To

    by: Frost Author IconMail Icon
Akira clung onto the armrests of his seat, his knuckles white from his grip. As far as he could tell it was just a miniature car seat attached to the wall. It did its job in keeping him secure in the rustling space that was Sae Niijima’s purse. He didn’t even want to imagine being stuck in there without the protection the plastic cell around him.

The plastic cell, unsurprisingly, was pretty much just a miniature version of his cell from juvie. A cot sat in the corner, bolted to the ground. There was a work desk and a large shelf/dresser. None of it seemed all that welcoming, but it was functional to say the least.

This is my life now, Akira thought glumly. Though, he continued to remind himself that if he survived the year, his punishment would effectively be normal. And considering he would be staying with one of his closest confidants, who also happened to be the most mature and responsible of them all, he wasn’t all too worried about being in danger.

However, once he was met with the light from the outside world, he was reminded of how pathetically small he was.

Each and everyone of his Phantom Thief friends were staring at him with awed expression. Akira couldn’t help but be self conscious. He was used to being one of the taller members of the Phantom Thieves, now he found himself staring up at them all as he walked out of his carrying case.

Akira slowed his breath, trying hard to return to the cool and unflappable leader he was to them.

“Hey, guys,” Akira said, cutting through the silence.

Nailed it, he thought.

There was a collective squeal from some of the female members of the Phantom Thieves.

“He’s so cute!” Haru chirped, fighting the urge to pick him up.

“He’s so teeny,” Ann added, pinching her fingers to emphasize his small stature.

If he felt self conscious before, then he was ready to retreat back into the box for the rest of his probation.

Makoto seemed to catch onto the tiny boy’s feeling of emasculation. “H-He’s still our friend,” she said sternly, but the slight tint on her cheeks hinted at what she was really thinking. She was just as enamored as the rest. “We’re here to celebrate that he’s back, even if he’s at a different height.”

----

Minutes after the tiny Akira made his return, a black cat entered the cafe and announced his return. However, Morgana couldn’t help but feel a bit overshadowed by Akira’s new size, which was all the girls (especially Lady Ann) were focused on. Still, he was glad to no longer be a stray and could eat decent food instead of scraps.

“Looks like Mona-chan’s gonna be the one carrying you around now, Akira-kun,” Haru hummed, smiling sweetly as she patted the cat on the head.

Akira chuckled. After the initial shock, he was slowly warming up to his new size. Though, it helped that he was sitting on a perch consisting of a stack of menus that kept him at roughly eye level with the others. He didn’t even want to think of a scenario that left him on the floor.

“Man, I can’t even imagine how weird it must feel, being that small, and all,” Ryuji said, taking a swig from a can of soda Sojiro provided.

“I’m sure it provides a unique perspective on the world,” Yusuke said, closing his eyes in contemplation. “I’m almost envious.”

“It’s strange,” Akira answered, ignoring Yusuke’s audible thoughts. “I’m still not all that used to it.”

“That’s where we come in to help!” Futaba offered, inching uncomfortably close to him. “You helped me with my promise list, so I’ll try to help you get though this.”

“We all will,” Makoto said, reassuring Akira.
