Chapter #7

    by: Unknown
This woman doesn't seem to have any concern for your well-being. There's no more guarantee of your safety here than there would be fighting monsters outside the walls.

You feel a tingling sensation in your head as you start to scrutinize the goblin's offer. You think it may be your intelligence stat going to work.

You've never played this game before, but it seems unlikely that there could be such a simple way to receive a rare mount. As long as there was loot in it for them, gamers were never dissuaded by tasks merely because they were difficult, tedious, or demeaning. With this game being fetish-centric, you're certain there are people who would even enjoy this activity. So you have to wonder, why haven't you seen another player with one of these mounts?

Either the product isn't all its cracked up to be or the quest was much harder than the stable owner let on. As the conclusion reaches your conscious mind, the tingling fades.

Your inner geek can't help but feel a little bit of joy at the seamless integration of the game's stats. Those thoughts felt like your own, but the game also clued you in when your own natural abilities were being affected. This allowed you to make educated decisions as a player and made your stat choices feel more impactful. You wonder what it would have felt like if you chose a physical stat.

A sharp whistle brings your mind back to the present.
"Hey, anyone in there?" She smiles, and her grin manages to show both impatience and amusement. All the while her bare foot taps on the dirty stable floor.

You hold your hands up apologetically and you feel your face grow warm from embarrassment.
You were hoping to find an easy way to get a little bit stronger, but you don't think this is it. You spend a moment searching for the right words, but settle on honest and straightforward. "I don't think this is the right job for me."

The goblin looks immediately saddened by this, but she holds out a hand and forces the smile back to her face. "Reckon I can't much blame ya, but figured it worth an ask. It was a pleasure to make yer acquaintance anywho."

You reach out and take her hand. It's tough and callused compared to your own. She did say she had the physical labor here under control; you were skeptical because of her size, but given the strength of her grip, you're now certain she does.

"Pleasure meeting you too, miss..."

How do you respectfully greet someone here?

"I don't think I caught your name." As you fumble through your sentence, you feel an absence of something, accompanied by an uncomfortable surge of self-consciousness. You think you hit the limits of your charisma, but the sensation quickly fades.

Was that too fantasy?

The stable keeper's mouth quirks up in a smile.
Without ever letting go of your hand she steps forward, painfully wrenches your wrist, and throws you to the floor over her shoulder. You land hard, the air whumps out of your lungs, and your impact stirs up a cloud of dust. (K.O. meter + 20)

"I think for our workin' relationship, Madam will do just fine." She roughly pats your cheek with a grimy green foot before walking off.

You lie on your back, still stunned from the heavy collision with the earth. Before you catch your breath the goblin haphazardly rolls you over to your stomach and straddles your shoulders.
She leans close, her chest presses against the back of your head and she coos down at youover your head. "And whaddya think I should call you?"

What does that mean? You ignore her weight on top of you and the rise and fall of her chest. Your enhanced intelligence hums to life inside your skull. She wasn't asking your name with that last question. If she were, she would have asked, "What should I call you?" She didn't want input. She was asking what she should name you. She intended to keep you.

All the little clues begin to piece together -- the sales attempt was so half-hearted because she didn't expect you to say yes. Sure, if you had agreed it would have been easier, but if you didn't nothing could have gone wrong. You were obviously a new player and she knew she could overpower you, she just needed to get you away from the public and by the time she began her pitch, it was already over. She's probably run the same con dozens of times.

As the realization hits, you dig deep and do the one thing you can -- scream for help louder then you've ever screamed before.

"Haha, and there it is! You newbies are all so predictable."

Before she finishes her sentence she has a metal bit between your teeth. She pulls it back as far as her considerable strength will allow, stifling your screams and placing intense strain on your jaw. With practiced dexterity she fastens it behind your head. (Willpower -5)

"Y'caught on pretty quick. I reckon ya started with intelligence? New folks with intelligence are my favorite to train; they're snappy on the uptake. Cuts out all the pointless fighting once they realize there's no way out."

She gets up off your back and let's you get to your feet. You look to the door at the far end of the room, back out to the storefront. You look back at the goblin.

She shrugs.

"Go ahead, give it a shot if ya need ta. The sooner it's all outta yer system, the sooner I can get back to my payin' customers up front."

She steps to the side and gives the universal gesture for 'after you.'
