It had been a life time ago that Jake had sold his original body and his current one was now approaching 40. While he had been in his previous body longer, he now had more memories with this one. Still he never fully adapted to this one and he had plenty of moments of dysphoria. In his dreams he was still a man. Still if he could go back to that day he wasn't sure if he would change it or not.
His life wasn't where he wanted to be, he had to drop out of college as he couldn't attend and raise a baby. He ended up moving back with his parents who weren't understanding at why he would do such a thing but also didn't want to leave their pregnant son out on the streets, it took them ages to finally consider this body to be their child, though they accepted the baby as their grandchild straight away.
For a while, Jake played the role of a stay at home mother, with the help of his own but more as a safety net, his parents constantly reminded him that he got himself into this mess so it was his responsibility to sort it out. The 50k he had received didn't go very far as he had to spend a bit of it on baby stuff and paying back loans for the classes he had already completed. The one saving grace about the whole situation was his new found daughter. While it was a pain to bring her into the world, he fell in love straight away and even though he didn't find happiness with his own life he did find it in raising his daughter, Chloe.
While Chloe was growing up, Jake's parents decided to refer to him as Jay and had Chloe call him mum so she didn't discover his actual name until she started school. Jake was a pariah among the other parents as he never changed his name and word got out. He still recalls the day Chloe came home from school saying that her mother was a boy.
Jake slowly explained the situation to her and it wasn't until she was a teenager he told her the whole truth. That put a massive strain in their relationship, knowing that her mother had sold his body for some quick cash and ended up with her by accident and worse still that her original mother had given her up. It took months for Jake to mend the relationship but it was never the same after that.
There were moments throughout all this where he considered selling this body but after childbirth and a lack of maintenance the value dropped even further and he didn't want to risk a blind switch again. He didn't even have the means to take out a loan to buy a new body for himself and those in his price range were even more undesirable, so he stayed as he was.
Jake thought life would remain mostly the same until something unexpected happened...
