“Hey there,” calls a loud feminine voice. You don’t care. You just sit there in the fetal position, unable to stop. You hear a few loud taps on the glass from the woman but don’t care. You hear scraping as the cage opens.
Suddenly, you are hoisted into the air and sitting on a gigantic palm. You are still trying to process everything whimpering with your hands in front of your eyes.
“What’s wrong?” the voice asks.
You give no response. She pulls your arms away from your face. The tears in your eyes prevent you from seeing at first, but you eventually look up.
“Hey there,” she says smiling. She’s an African American woman, about the principal’s. “I’m Carla. Now, what’s wrong?”
“Miss Hall has kidnapped me and will do God knows what,” you stammer.
“There, there,” Carla answers. “She just owns you silly. I know this may seem scary at first, but don’t worry. I will keep an eye on you to make sure she doesn’t do anything too harmful.”
Miss Hall walks in carrying popcorn. She plops herself on the large couch behind Carla.
“I see you discovered my new pet,” she states.
Carla takes a seat on the couch next to her, and answers, “Yes Rachel, and you have given him quite the fright.”
Rachel chuckles to herself proudly. Placing the popcorn on the coffee table in front of them, she leans into Carla to snuggle, her face resting against her thigh. Carla places you on her other leg, where they both can see you.
“Now I know she can be a bit… rambunctious,” Carla sooths. Rachel faced you on Carla’s lap and winked while she said this as if to prove her point. “But, I live here too and will protect you from her worse antics. You’ll have fun. I know it’ll take some time to get used to your new life, but you’ll be a lot safer with us than out in the big, dangerous world.”
“Now, what movie do you want to watch?” She asks Rachel.
