“No,” Nicol replied, “actually...”
“Actually,” Max interrupted, “this is about my little sister Rosita. To be more specific, she wants to be a ‘big boy.’ She says she doesn’t like being picked on for being small, and that once the swap happens, no one will be able to mess with her anymore.”
“Yeah, that makes so much sense,” Gissel said sarcastically.
“In that case,” Yonatan continued, “it means she could switch with you. I mean, in her eyes, you’re the definition of a ‘big boy.’”
“Not really,” Max replied. “She hates the idea of becoming her brother. Actually, she was thinking more about you, Yonatan.”
Everyone went silent. Nicol and Gissel watched closely, curious about how their friend would react. But he didn’t show any expression, as if he wasn’t sure how to feel about the idea—becoming a little girl.
“I just want to make it clear that I do intend to swap,” Nicol said, breaking the awkward silence. “With Max’s sister, that makes two, and if Yonatan agrees, then there’s only one spot left.”
“You mean for me?” Gissel asked, eyeing her suspiciously. “Well, if I can bring someone else into this, someone from my family, like Max did, I guess I could get involved too. And since I don’t work, one of my parents would have to cover my part of the cost. I assume it’s the same for Yonatan—he’d have to talk to his parents about paying.”
“Don’t even think about it,” Max said firmly. “My sister wants this to feel as real as possible, so the fewer people who know about the swap, the better. So don’t say anything to your parents, Yonatan. And don’t worry about the money—since we’re the ones who want to do the swap, we’ll cover your share.”
“Guys,” Yonatan said with an awkward smile, “I haven’t even agreed to this yet.”
“Well, now that you’re proposing that, I’ve got a fun idea too,” Gissel said with a mischievous grin. “What if the person I choose to swap with stays a secret? I mean, only I’ll know, plus Nicol, since she’ll be the one switching with her—and obviously, that person. So neither Yonatan, Max, nor Max’s sister will know who’s in Nicol’s body!”
“That sounds fun!” Nicol said, already imagining the situation. “And since I’m the only one who needs to give consent, your idea is officially accepted!”
“Hey,” Max said, clearly uncomfortable, “you could at least hear my opinion.”
“Nope!” Nicol laughed. “In fact, let’s stick to the other idea we were planning to use too!”
“What other idea?” Gissel asked, intrigued, like she knew it was going to be something she’d like.
“Well, Max and I were thinking about doing the swap on a random day,” Nicol explained, trying to be as clear as possible. “The promotion lasts a whole month, so we have nearly four weeks to do the exchange. The idea was for the four people who will swap to agree on a day to come—without telling Max. That way, even Max won’t know when someone else is in his sister’s body.”
“In that case,” Gissel said, trying to make sure she understood, “I wouldn’t know the day you’re in my family member’s body, and Max wouldn’t know the day that family member is in yours.”
“What a mess,” Yonatan said. “But you know what? I’m in.”
Neither Max nor Nicol questioned his sudden agreement. The last thing they wanted was to make him second-guess himself or back out.
“Then it’s settled!” Max said triumphantly. “Now all that’s left is for the four who are swapping to agree on everything. I guess I won’t be needed after this.”
“As for me,” Gissel added, “I’ll just introduce Nicol to the family member I have in mind—and hope they agree, haha. Once that’s done, I’ll step away too. I’ll be in the dark about what happens next! It’s kind of... exciting.”
Max and Nicol exchanged mischievous grins, satisfied that everything was going according to plan. Now, all that was left... was the swap itself.
A few days had passed—about a week. At this point, the swap could have already happened… or not. Max and Gissel, at least, had no idea.
Max’s little sister, Rosa, had been acting a bit differently. Max, on his part, kept treating her the same as always.
Something inside him made him really curious, but remembering the deal—that no one would know when the exchange would happen—he hesitated to ask.
And then, he:
