“Uh... can I help you?”
She shoots you a quizzical glare.
“Sorry, I’m new here. Just looking around. Is this your house?”
“Mhm! Pretty cool, huh?” She gloats, though her voice is distant and somewhat quiet.
“Hey, Uh, you wanna come up here? I can’t exactly hear you so well.”
“I’m not sure I can.” You grin.
“Hold up. Uh... Twilight gave me some potion doohickey... somewhere...”
She disappears for a few moments, and soon returns, holding a little plastic tube between her teeth.
“Dwilighh said... thish willhh lehh youhh shtand on cloudsh..”
she spits it out, sending it hurtling down towards you, and you manage to catch it.
“Yeah, if you drink that, then clouds should support you for 24 hours - I mean, I sure hope so or else...” she laughs wryly and then softly uses her wings to descend down to ground level.
You can see the Pegasus more clearly now; she has a rainbow mane and tail, with a small cloud discharging a bolt of multicolored lighting as a cutie mark.
You tilt your head back, drinking down the contents of the tube. It’s slightly minty, but has no immediate effect you can feel.
“Yeah... I’m gonna have to lift you up there.” She says suddenly, levitating over behind you and scooping you up by locking her arms under yours.
You feel yourself being lifted above the ground. It’s a little scary at first, but she has you pretty tightly.
You’re placed down onto the clouds, feeling your feet settle against the surface, that quick second of fear soon fading.
“I really need to get some stairs or something.” She says to herself, letting you go and trotting around in front of you again.
“I’m Rainbow Dash, by the way!” She holds a hoof to her chest and spreads her wings proudly, as if you’re supposed to already know who she is, but you don’t.
“Hi! I’m Peppermint Swirl.”
“New here, huh? What brings you to Ponyville?”
“Well, I’m actually here to work for Twilight... I guess you two know each other if she made that potion for you.”
“Wait... work for her? How?”
“Like, an assistant. I think.”
She shakes her head and scoffs incredulously.
“As if Twilight needs another assistant! That’s so unfair! She’s already got, like, three! Oh, this is so like her! If there’s anyone who needs an assistant, it’s me!”
“You do?”
“Yeah! I’m a wonderbolt, you know. I don’t have anypony to wash my clothes or help me prepare, and she’s got Spike and Starlight to help her!”
She’s still shaking her head.
“Why can’t you be my assistant, instead? How much is she paying you?”
“Well, it’s more of an expenses paid sort of thing, but I’ve already told Twilight I’ll be working for her..”
“So tell her you changed your mind! I’m the one who deserves the assistant here! I’m sure you’d rather work for me than being stuck in some stuffy library all day! C’mon!”
“Well, I’m just not sure..”
She pauses, and a devious smile crawls across her face.
“Well, the way I see it, you don’t have any way of getting down from here without my help. You’re not really in a position to say no, are you?”
“...what?”
“All I’m asking is you be my assistant for... one day. Until your potion wears off, at least, and if you like it better, you work for me instead! Though... I’m also the one with the potions keeping you up here, so I would choose something in my interest, if I were you..”
Jeez. She’s crazy! Though you have a loyalty to Twilight, you can’t exactly argue with Rainbow Dash, and your induction isn’t technically until tomorrow, anyway, so there’s no harm in humoring her for just one day. Hopefully her threats are as empty and desperate as they seem.
“I guess for one day...”
“Great! Sorry if I seemed a little... Uh... threatening, it’s just that I’ve been needing an assistant for ages now, and it’s just not fair for Twilight to hog you like that!”
Rainbow Dash leads you towards the entrance of her house. She seems okay, though her threat is still looming over you.
“Well, here’s my crib. I know, I know, it’s pretty awesome. No need to tell me.” She chuckles to herself.
You’re both in a large hallway, with a staircase leading up to the next floor, and doorways to your left and right.
“I would give you the tour, but you’ll see the whole place while you’re working for me. My bedroom’s upstairs, kitchen and lounge are down here, I’ve got a little training ground out back, and the bathroom’s upstairs too.” She looks back at you. “If you do decide to take up the position, you can take the spare room. I haven’t exactly got a bed in there, but there’s a mattress.... I think.” She briefly flashes you a wide smile.
“But anyway, the first order of business....”
