Pride led her down sorrow's road

“Hector! I challenge you… You’ll see! You take back those words!

Eliwood’s group was traveling to Missur after meeting with Uther, Hector’s brother, and being told to search for a Living Legend in the Nabata Desert. They had stopped to camp and Hector had followed Lyn away from camp to watch her train one evening.

“Okay, a duel then. If you win, I’ll admit I was wrong. But if I win” Hector reached into his bag and pulled out a strange looking vial. “You have to drink this.”

The fire in Lyn’s eyes melted back into a much more confused expression instead. “You want me to, what? Drink that? What even is it?” She asked, perplexed.

“Shrinking potion.” Hector said calmly as he twirled the small glass container between his fingers. Quite nimbly for someone so strong, Lyn noted.

“A- What? You want me to drink a shrinking potion? Why would you- I’m not agreeing to that!” Lyn said, appalled that Hector would make such a request.

“You won’t agree? I thought you were confident in your skills. As long as you defeat me in our duel, there’s nothing to worry about.” He smirked, clearly trying to goad her into agreeing. And unfortunately for Lyn, it was working.

As long as she didn’t lose, it would be fine. And besides, Hector was a trusted ally. He’d never do anything to hurt her. This was her chance to prove herself over Hector once and for all, and wipe that smug expression off of his face. “Okay, fine. You’re on.” Lyn said, letting her pride get the better of her. “Just know that I won’t be drinking that potion because I won’t be losing.”

Hector’s smile grew at her words. “Well then” He said, slipping the little bottle back into his bag, trading it out for the axe on his back. “I guess we may as well get started.”

Lyn moved into her own stance, crouching down and moving her hand to her sheathed blade. “I’m ready, come at me Hector!” She cried. Lyn breathed in as she pushed the guard of her sword up with her thumb, ready for the fight to begin.

“No way…” Lyn said as she stared up at the axe being thrust in her face. “How could I have lost?”

Hector moved to return his weapon to its holster. “Like I was saying before you interrupted me. Swordsmen and Cavaliers may be fast, but they trade their attack and defense for raw speed. Meanwhile all I need is one blow to… Lyn?”

Lyn looked up to meet his eyes. “Why, thank you, Hector. For me, losing to you was a good lesson in my limits.” She stood up and grabbed her sword from where it had fallen to the ground. Then began walking away, already planning to learn some new lunge and thrust patterns that she anticipated would be good against axemen in heavy armor.

“Hey Lyn!” Hector called after her as she turned away. “You’re not forgetting something are you?”

Lyn brought her hands to her mouth with a gasp. In the intensity of their duel, she had completely forgotten about the terms of their agreement. “Hector! You can’t possibly mean to- to shrink me!”

“A deal’s a deal isn’t it? And I thought the proud people of Sacae told no lies?” He walked up to her before depositing the small vial from earlier into her hand.

Lyn looked down at the little bottle she was now holding. She did agree to this. She supposed it was only fair as the punishment for losing their duel. “C- can you at least tell more about this first? How long does it last? How- how small will I get?” She asked timidly, as if afraid what Hector’s answer would be.

You have the following choices:

1. The potion only lasts a few hours

*Pen*
2. The potion doesn't wear off, but can be reversed with the antidote

*Pen* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
