You find yourself shrunken to a tiny size in the wilderness with wild Pokemon

This choice: You began shrinking even more!  •  Go Back...
Chapter #12

Not as planned

    by: Unknown
The tingling sensation intensified and you closed your eyes again in anticipation. You were feeling something so you assumed it was working and you smiled to yourself as the feeling seemed to reach its peak. All of a sudden, it stopped and was quickly followed by a gasp from Mew which made your heart sink with dread. Still being levitated with Psychic, you hesitantly opened your eyes and the sight made your heart skip a beat. It was Mew; only much, much bigger. You thought she was mindbogglingly large before but now she might as well be her very own planetoid!

Obviously, her attempt at reversing the shrinking she had done to you had only succeeded in making you even smaller. You flinched as Mew brought her stubby paw up to catch you out of the air and it felt like you were being swiped up by a fuzzy mountain. Your body sunk down waist deep into the large pink strands of fur and you struggled to stay standing from the minute movements she made as she simply held you. In the end you collapsed on your back as Mew carefully pulled you closer to her, her face essentially taking up all your field of vision.

"Um, I think I messed up," Mew quietly said.

That was the understatement of the century. The size you were previously at could be considered gigantic compared to the new small size you found yourself at now. In the back of your mind you almost expected it, she made it clear that she wasn't confident in her ability to grow things but the sheer enormity of your surroundings and Mew herself made you feel incredibly anxious. Earlier you were concerned about the idea of being small forever and now those fears were intensifying tenfold as you started imagining that same scenario but on a much worse scale.

"Are you okay?" Mew asked, guilt and concern written all over her face.

You went to speak but hesitated. Not only were you unsure of how to answer that question, you weren't even sure if she could hear such a puny thing. Eventually you spoke up and stated the obvious. "Well, it didn't work."

"I said I didn't know how to do it," she groaned. "I'm a bit surprised it backfired this much, though, I'm sorry."

"What should we do now?"

"Let's get back to the cave, first."

Mew gently brought you up to her chest and held you there as she left the water and flew to the cave. With how large her paw was, your world was engulfed in darkness and you could only see a few fragments of light through the dense fur of her chest. For a moment you began to panic as her grip lightened and you felt yourself tumbling deeper into the fur but thankfully you found yourself essentially held in place by the long pink hairs. You assumed she was being careful not to crush you because of your much smaller size but the minuscule amount of leeway she was trying to give you would have sent you plummeting down if it weren't for her fur. Your body was light enough that the fur was holding you up but you still grabbed an entire armful, just in case. You felt like a flea.

When she got back to the cave you were almost amused as she pulled her hand away and failed to find you. "Um, where are you?" she uncertainly asked. "I didn't drop you did I?"

"I'm on your chest," you yelled up to her.

You could feel her chest slowly rise as she breathed a sigh of relief and started searching for you. Looking up you could see her searching her fur, slowly parting it randomly as she tried to locate you. Were you really so small she couldn't see you? Waving your hands her massive blue eyes eventually focused on you. Once again, she sighed but this one sounded more pitiful.

"Jeez, you're really tiny."

"I noticed."

For a long moment you both sat in silence as Mew craned her neck to look down at the pitifully small human nestled on her chest. The implications of her failure to return you back to your normal size hung heavily in the air. First off, you couldn't live a life at this size and secondly, if she tried to fix it she might accidentally make the situation worse yet again. It presented quite the conundrum because if you wanted to ever be larger again, you would eventually have to risk her giving it another shot. What if she fails again? Could you even survive if you got smaller? What if you got so small you just blinked out of existence?

For a while you just pushed yourself further against her chest, resting in her fur. Reaching back, you touched her skin and could feel her powerful heart beating away inside. The concealment from the outside world and the rhythmic beating was oddly calming but eventually Mew felt like she had to address the issue at hand.

"Um, look, we've got a few options," she started. "We could try that again, it might work..."

"But it might not."

"Yeah. I really didn't think I was that bad at it, I'm sorry..."

"What are the other options?"

"I think that if I shrink other people or Pokemon I could develop the skill faster. I shrink them down a bit, try and grow them back and if I fail and make them smaller then I can just go get another volunteer to train on!"

Volunteer was definitely the wrong word in this situation but you abstained from pointing it out. You hated to think about involving others into this fiasco but it did sound like a good way for her to develop the growing aspect of her size-changing powers quickly, even if she would probably end up creating a menagerie of shrunken Pokemon. When she develops it she could just grow them all back and release them, though, right?

"Or maybe it's better if we don't try at all," she suggested. "I'm sure I can make it work; you can just live with me and i'll look after you. I mean, the arrangement might not be permanent, we might come up with something else later."

From the the way she looked it seemed she was deeply conflicted. She wanted to make it right but was ultimately unsure if she could based on her past failure. It might have just been a fluke but the dread that another attempt might fail again weighed heavily in the air. Despite that, she had condensed your options down to three alternatives; merely try again, let her train her abilities or simply live with her as is and hope she comes up with something later.

It looked like she wanted your input. Which option do you suggest?
