Hmm, how about this storyline?

Maxwell, or Max for short. He's three years old. He's relatively eager to use the potty, but has some foibles. Alongside still getting used to using the potty outside his home, especially if his Mommy isn't around, he also often waits at the last minute to go potty. That, and he has rather poor aim.
