“I’m finished,” Jaune announced to the others. “Going to step outside for a few minutes.” Pyrrha smiled at him, before pulling open a dresser drawer. Nora waved and Ren gave a short nod. Jaune had just stepped outside when the door across the hall opened and a familiar girl with short black hair and red tips exited. Her gothic red and black dress was recognizable anywhere.
“Hey, Jaune!” Ruby Rose greeted brightly.
“Sup, Rubes.” Jaune replied.
“What’s happening with you?”
“Oh, Ozpin gave us a mission to clear some Grimm around a farming town,” Jaune answered. “We are finishing packing and leaving tonight. Will be gone a couple days.”
“Luuuuckkkkkyyyy,” Ruby told him and pouted a little. “I’m stuck here listening to Weiss and Yang argue.”
“About what?” Jaune asked.
“Yang used some of Weiss’s super expensive shampoo or something,” Ruby answered and waved her hair dismissively. “Seriously, she should buy normal priced shampoo. It’s so expensive I think she has to be putting actually silver in her hair.” The two of them shared a laugh. “So why are you out here?”
“I was…” Jaune paused. He couldn’t say he wanted to test some magical remote that swapped things between people. That sounded bad in his head and his phrasing ability would only make it worse. Ruby would be a perfect test subject for him after all. He just needed her to look away and decide what to swap. “…getting some last minute exercise before we get on the Bullhead. Going to be stuck in one for most of the night with Nora.”
“Isn’t being with Nora an exercise on its own?” Ruby asked innocently, causing Jaune to snort.
“Yeah, but being in a cramped compartment with motion sickness is going to prevent me from moving around any.”
“Ah, yeah.” From the look on her face, she didn’t envy anyone sitting next to him. The memory of him puking on Yang’s shoes was still vivid in their minds. The two of them turned down the hallway and walked together. “Soooo, there was a new Dust bullet released this week that’s supposed to have twice the piercing power. Grimm with thick hides won’t stand a chance.”
“Oh?”
One thing Ruby loved about Jaune was he didn’t think she was weird for loving weapons and weapon accessories. That was mostly due to the fact he admired that she was so passionate about something. As she went on and on about the new ammunition, Jaune secretly pulled out the remote and aimed it at her. It probably was going to work, but curiosity forced him to try it.
