Chapter #9

Trying to Help

    by: Pikablu Author IconMail Icon
"Steven, you're not gonna get over your anxiety of being here if you don't socialize a bit." Peter said. Even though he was a nerd, at least he didn't nearly break down on his first day. "Steven must've been isolated from society for a long time if he's this nervous about school. I wonder if his parents just homeschooled him." Peter thought to himself. So, he decided to ask Steven while they walked to lunch. "Maybe if you tell me a bit about yourself you'll be less nervous." Peter suggested. "W-w-well, I've n-never really t-t-talked to anyone besides m-my parents. They t-t-t-taught me e-everything I know about the w-world."

Steven explained. He further explained how his parents were originally from Europe, and that this was their first venture internationally. Steven was sent to this school because his parents were living in New York City currently, as they wanted to see another country. "Wow, your life sounds cool. My family's never really been rich." Peter said, trying to get more out of Steven. "Y-yeah! It's pretty c-cool, I guess." Steven mumbled, though Peter noticed he was more comfortable speaking to him.

Once they got to the cafeteria though, Steven nearly fainted. "Don't worry, just stay with me and you'll be fine." Peter explained. He figured Steven would be more comfortable with someone anyways, and that the boy needed guidance on public schooling anyways. Once the two got their lunches, Peter sat down with Ned, bringing Steven along. "Eep!" Steven squealed as he saw Peter went to sit with someone he didn't know. "S-s-s-s-sorry, I-I'm bad w-with p-p-p-people." Steven chirped. "Don't worry Steven, this is my friend Ned. He's about as harmful as a kitten." Peter joked. "Hey! If we're comparing me to a feline then I'm definitely more of a lion." Ned falsely boasted. Steven couldn't help but let out a slight giggle at Ned's response to Peter's joking insult. "See! You're warming up to him already." Peter said as he noticed Steven laugh.
