With her shoulders slumped, Alexis went off into the back to grab her manager. While not an awful manager… he did have high expectations of Alexis from the start. “…Sir, do you have a second?”
Alexis gave him a recap and he was about as confused as she was. This wasn’t the first time he needed to hear the ramblings of a neighborhood ‘Karen’, he put on his serious face and went outside to handle things or he was…
“E-Emilie De Rochefort?” The manager was stunned.
“Madam Lili or ma’am will do just fine. I take it you’re the manager?”
“Why… yes I am ma’am.”
“Someone in your employ thinks I should be paying her for a pair of stockings.”
“We… We will have this fixed immediately.”
“I’ve waited here long enough; I still have to find some proper heels to match my new stockings. Quickly explain to your employee where she went wrong.”
“Alexis… This is the one and only daughter of the Rochefort family. She is worth millions.”
Lili cleared her throat. “Try billions, fool.”
“…Then why can’t she pay?”
There was a long silence…
“Move out the way you pathetic excuse for a manger and let her come up front.” Alexis walked past her boss and stood in front of the cash register.
“People like me don’t pay people like you for things like those. What is your name, girl?” Lili asked with her forefinger and thumb on her chin like a strict teacher would.
“My name is Alexis… and I just started working here a short while ago… ma’am.”
“Hmmph, and here I was thinking it was just a slap to the face. You just didn’t know any better.” Alexis was listening closely; she honestly didn’t know where she could have offended.
“It was ignorant to ask me to pay, the amount of money this quaint little shop will receive will make your managers head spin. People like you are to be paid only in exposure. I don’t carry money on my person whatsoever as I don’t need it.”
Most of this made sense but the constant “People like you” remarks tested her patience. Her last job had annoying arrogant customers, but this girl was just so… in your face about it.
“People like you pay these prices in fact, that’s what’s going to happen now.”
“W-What?”
“Are you going to use, cash or credit. My guess, credit.” Lili smirked.
“There’s no way you’re being serious… and those stocking cost over $100.”
“I can’t imagine your manager keeping you her after you cost him a future surplus of income. Someone of my status wearing stockings from this store… and you’re thinking of saying no for only $100?” Lili laughed a loud annoying laugh.
“Ohoho~ Imbécile.”
Alexis looked behind her at her manager. His reaction to what Lili said was all she needed to see. She was going to be about a good chunk of her payday… on a single pair of grossly overpriced stockings.
Alexis went into her back pocket pulled out her wallet and chose the credit card. The look on Lili’s face made Alexis want to pull the girl’s hair out. Embarrassing… Alexis swiped her card and handed the girl her bag with her new stockings.
