Chapter #8

The Babysitter

    by: PenSlayer5 Author IconMail Icon
Before you could say anything else your mother Katherine walked in, fully dressed like she was ready to go to work. She greeted you sweetly and planted a small kiss in your forehead before turning her attention to your now older sister.

"Now remember Heather, I'll be working late tonight, and I need you to look after everyone tonight while I'm gone. There's money for pizza on the kitchen counter and bedtime is 9:00 for the little ones, 9:30 at the latest understand." Your mother explained.

Heather rolled her eyes in a way you hadn't seen from the respectful little girl you knew. "I understand. I take it dad and Hannah also won't be back until later tonight."

"Pretty much, yeah." Your mother confirmed. "I know you wanted to go out tonight, but I really do need you right now. I promise I'll make it up to you later, sweety."

Your mom turned around to leave but paused for a moment before cutting the corner. She had a look of complete seriousness on her face that she only really ever used on your dad, Hannah, and yourself.

"And one more thing, no boys." She stated firmly.

Heather looked as if the world had come crashing down. It was actually kind of funny to see. "Seriously?! I can't invite Eddie over?"

"Sorry, not after last time." You mother finished. She turned and walked away, leaving your sister slumped on the couch looking thoroughly annoyed. So that's why she was in such a mood. She's upset that she has to babysit tonight and can't go out.

Since she couldn't go out, she wanted whoever this Eddie person was to come over instead and mom shut that idea down. Was Eddie Heather's boyfriend. If so then, wow! Also, why did that name sound so familiar.

Your thoughts were soon interrupted by the front door opening and closing shut. Your mother had left, and it was just you, Heather, Kevin, Stella, and James. Not knowing what else to do you slid the remote into your pocket and took a seat next to your sister. You have her a gentle tap on the arm to let her know everything would be okay.

The teen groaned. "Why me?"
